If you needed to sell a Harley very quickly, how would you go about doing so? Assume the bike is in resale condition, of course.

We've tried craigslist, cycletrader, and ebay motors...but we're having no luck. The only bite we got ended up no-showing.

Have a Chinese translator post a classified on Baidu.

Your local area HD dealers likely have Harley Owner's Group (HOG) chapters. Go to meeting or contact some of their members. The HD dealer itself will not give you a good price, but would likely buy it quickly.

Harleys are very popular in China and that's been known for some time. Also Japan. Figuring out the import regs, duties, etc is probably more than you can safely rely on, however.

It's about the worse time of the year to sell Harleys and there's a glut on the market around here. I think the Harley crazy already peaked. There are people who make a living by buying Harleys in the winter and selling them in the spring, making a couple thousand on each one.

It your's a Fat Boy or a sportster? Model? Vintage? Stock or customized?

Ironically, I was looking at eBay 2 nights ago and was VERY surprised at how much ordinary and even custom Harley prices have dropped, but again it's winter. Still, for a national market you may want to try eBay. The buyer arranges shipping, not the seller.

Don't sell it in the winter.

Sell it in the spring when everyone wants a motorcycle.

You'll get a lot more money.

Pose topless on it.

Funny you should ask this. One of the other CERT members here just got rid of one she had been trying to sell for a while. She let the local fire department raffle it. Tickets were $20 each and they sold more tickets than the equivalent of her asking price. She donated the overage to the fire department. Gone in 3 weeks and no haggling.

This. It's rather like trying to sell an RV in January or a snowblower in July. Nobody is interested. A few months later, voila... everybody wants it!
