How the oil industry made us doubt climate change

Please describe the testable hypothesis of AGW?
Look out the window. Is it warmer today, on average, than it was when you were a kid? Next, study pictures of ice coverage around the globe at this time of year. Is it less than when you were a kid? Lastly, examine all the graphs and data points collected. Do they show a clear warming trend over the past 100 years?

Bingo, the hypothesis has been tested and verified.

Actually, no. A record of warming does not say anything about the cause.

It’s a mystery!

Oh wait..no... it’s RAYS FROM OUTER SPACE!

Or is it sekrit volcanoes under the ice?

You people are pitiful.

Galactic cosmic rays have a cooling effect, and the volcanoes are not secret.

How so?
Many things have change since I was a kid, the level of aerosol pollution has declined by a large factor.
The additional solar energy reaching the ground, could have played an enormous role in the observed warming.
In addition, while the average daily temperature is higher, the daily high temperature has barely increased.
The only thing noticeable, is that nights are not getting as cool.
No! a testable hypothesis would not simply be the correlation of increased CO2 with increased temperatures!

Same as the tobacco industry. Hide the truth and produce a propaganda campaign.

But this one is political. Republicans are the party of the rich and powerful and corporations. Liberals are a bunch of tree huggers. The deplorables buy all right wing propaganda.

Tragic that profits for corporations trump quality of life for our children and our children's children. They are the ones who will pay for this corporate greed.

All you have to do is open your eyes and look around you to see what we are doing to this planet. One day there will be a reckoning.

We owe our quality of life to the benefits we get from fossil fuels, and the dense energy package they provide.
If all fossil fuels disappear today, likely 80% of the population of the Earth would be dead within a year.
While fossil fuels will not disappear in a single day, they will get more expensive as they become scarce.
We should do all we can to optimize the efficiencies of our energy uses, but we also have to consider
how we will move towards a sustainable future, where everyone alive today, can enjoy a first would lifestyle, if they choose to.
Short of a major technological advance like fusion power, that type of sustainable future would most likely
involve man made carbon neutral hydrocarbon fuels, made from solar or nuclear power.
By creating hydrocarbon fuels from atmospheric CO2, the fuel when burned, produces ZERO net CO2 emissions.
