Once I was held captive in Kabul. I was the bride of a charming, seductive and Westernized Afghan Muslim whom I met at an American college. The purdah I experienced was relatively posh but the sequestered all-female life was not my cup of chai -- nor was the male hostility to veiled, partly veiled and unveiled women in public.

When we landed in Kabul, an airport official smoothly confiscated my US passport. "Don't worry, it's just a formality," my husband assured me. I never saw that passport again. I later learnt that this was routinely done to foreign wives -- perhaps to make it impossible for them to leave. Overnight, my husband became a stranger. The man with whom I had discussed Camus, Dostoevsky, Tennessee Williams and the Italian cinema became a stranger. He treated me the same way his father and elder brother treated their wives: distantly, with a hint of disdain and embarrassment.

People like that arent even real muslims in my book, as they go against everything Islam is supposed to stand for: peace, harmony, freedom, and respect for ALL of God's creations.

i say that those people twist the words and meanings of the Perfect man and use them to promote violence. They neither know or truly care about Muhammad's true relationship with the Jews of Medina. In the immortal words of Hamza Yusuf, "Islam was hijacked".

Mislead people are not hard to find, the truth, sometimes, is.

Okay, there are people who pervert or believe in a perverted version of Islam. To say that they are indicative of the faith as a whole, or that those who disagree them with are not in accordance with the faith, is as preposterous as saying any Catholic who wears a condom is not a Christian.

Does anybody honestly believe that that there isn't a problem within Islam that some are interpreting it to be hatred of all non-believers and that they deserve death? I admit I'm new, but I haven't seen any posts saying that should be supported.

There is a problem in the way that Islam is being interpreted. I'll be first to say that, but anecdotes simply don't provide any kind of valid insight towards the problem or support working towards a solution.

There are far worse stories that will never see the light of day because those in power won't allow it. There are also Muslims who do integrate into western society and follow those ideals that we hold dear. Anecdotes are interesting, and can be used to advance an argument that has been factually based on other points, but in and of themselves they are simply stories. Some pleasant, some horrific.

So what? Even the ones who did the 11-9 attacks integrated into western society when they were learning in your universities and when they lived in your society just like you, only for wating to their moment to blow themselves up among infidels in the name of Jihad.

Who promise you that those who you mention in your post don't prepare themselves to the Jihad H-hour?

Another explanation to your words will be this:

They are not Muslims, they may been raised upon Islam but it doesn't say that they believe in the religion that they were raised upon, there are many etheists among them, don't forget that Islam is a religion, not an I.D. or a genetic code.

Being accepted to a school does not mean that you are integrated into the society as a whole. The fact that they wanted to kill themselves while taking out the maximum possible number of innocents kind of indicates that they were out of step with American culture.

No one. Who makes promises on anything? I have no promise that my downstairs neighbor won't snap one day and come after me with a frying pan. Doesn't mean I don't live in fear of the possibility.

I have absolutely no fear, none whatsoever, of anyone who is integrated into western society and holding the values that we hold dear of strapping on some dynamite when they leave the house in the morning. What I worry about is the crazy people who do not believe in those values.

I thought my words were pretty straightforward and wouldn't need any explanation. I really don't see what you just wrote has anything to do with what I said and is most certainly not an alternate meaning of anything I said.

what is it with you and telling people they aren't what they say they are? I can say i am whatever the hell i want to say i am, and you can't do anything about it. And Islam is just as much a 'genetic code' as Judaism is. The only thing that makes a Jew by genetics is that his ancestors were all Jews. The same can be said about alot of Muslims. And being a Muslim defninently is an I.D. Just ask the thousnads of Muslim's who get harassed at airports every day just because they wear a headscarf, or because they have a Muslim name.

Nonsence!

Islam is kind of thinking, nobody is being born Muslim, and Islam is not an I.D code, there are people who been raised as Muslims and when they grew up they understood the nonsence they were brought up to and they abandon that kind of thinking, and I have examples for that, the Arabs in Israel who been raised as Muslims and later on abandon it and return to follow the 7 laws of Noach and Arabs who been raised as Muslims, AND ALSO WERE TERRORISTS, and then abandon Islam, like Walid Shoebate and his 2 friends who were like him, you can see their interview in the thread of Wafa Sultan.

There are also atheist Jews who define themselves as Jews because they see themselves as belong to the Jewish ethnic group, there are no "atheist Muslims", either someone is a Muslim or an atheist, and if he define himself as "atheist" then he is not Muslim, cause atheism is in the opposite to Islam

apparently you like saying the word 'nonsence', which by the way isnt a word. i can only assume you're trying to say 'nonsense'. gosh i sure do love 5th grade vocabulary. i especially liked 'if you are saying these kind of nonsence then you are not as smart as I thought about you in the first place.'


first off, i can give you at least 20 million examples of people who have abandoned their own faith and converted to Ahmadiyyat every year, and even more convert to Islam. If you want to judge a religion by the amount of people who convert to it, Islam is the clear winner, as it is a known fact that Islam is the fastest growing religion out there, with atheism coming in a close second.

You seem to pride yourself in the fact that people consider 'Jewish' to be an ethnic group. In fact, this only shows the close-mindedness and arrogance of Jews.

'Muslim' is not a true ethnicity simply because of the truly VAST amount of ethnicities it encompasses. But you can ask anyone who is a Muslim, or who has Muslim parents, Islam defines them.
