History tells us empires don't last forever. From the Mongols, Rome, Greece, and the Egyptians, to the Ottomans, Aztecs, Incans, and British, you have an allotted amount of time to be "the man" until everyone else catches up.

Now, America isn't what it once was. We are viewed as fat, lazy, and ignorant (at least by the Aussies and Brits I talk to)

We have a government that loves wasting money. We have a tax code that robs the winners to feed the losers. Hell, we babble about freedom, but a woman can't sell her body and a man can't smoke a little mary jane.

Will there be another civil war? The progressives (thieves) vs. the capitalists/conservatives?

Well, I forgot to add the Poll and you apparently can't after posting, so just state your opinion.

Others have already caught up. China is a world power, and the EU has the potential to be. America may be a superpower, but it's not a hyperpower that it reveled in being during most of the 90s.

I also could give a damn what the English and Australian people think about us. Chalk it up to tall poppy syndrome.

Agreed, but I don't think China's at our level yet. Our military is still far superior to anyone else's, including the entire EU.

What needs to happen is the legalization of drugs (extraordinary boom for economy and frees up our prisons and ultimately tax dollars), the implementation of a flat tax, and a complete and total overhaul of the education system. Children are indoctrinated into thinking they have to get fancy degrees and work for someone else. The main focus should be on business. That's not how capitalism works. A degree from Yale isn't going to put food on the table. Profit from the business you created is.

Oh, the EU's "military" (sorry, it makes me snicker to put "EU" and "military" together) will never be worth flip. They're just an economic bloc, but they have definite potential. Right now I wouldn't put them close to us, but if they actually banded together, cut off the weaker links and really buckled down on fiscal policy, they could really put a dent into the global socioeconomic scene.

I really do think China is at our level, or damn close to it. Also recognize that they have relations and an alliance with North Korea, which is big enough to saber-rattle when needs be.

I agree with almost all of your points, except the one where you trashed my "fancy degrees". Education is a means to an end, and the end has several paths that lead to it.

Unlike empires that failed in the past, the United States has the power, through the ballon box, to change. That change may be coming too slowly, we may believe our vote doesn't count, but -- when the chips are down -- when we get fed up enough, we CAN change our government. We aren't quite there yet. But I think we're getting close.

Underneath all the complaining and frustration, I think Americans are proud of their form of government, if not the people in office who run it. I think Conservatives who oppose redistribution of weath are going to get UNhappier before they get happier. And I think Liberals who oppose CUTTING social programs are going to get UNhappier before they get happier. But in life all things swing to and fro.

Historically speaking, governments last an average of 225 years and the US is fast approaching that. Change will occur and given the splintering of the country now I can see that happening in the future. Some people will call it Balkanization, but it's impossible to make people live together in harmony and respecting each other when they are spread across vast distances. This has been a problem with every empire.

Didn't mean to trash. The college degree is very overrated in regards to making money. Sure, it's absolutely essential if you want to be a lawyer, doctor, judge, teacher, etc., but if one's goal is to make money and lots of it, a degree isn't necessary.

The first state that tries to secede on the basis that wealth redistribution is wrong will receive mass immigration from myself and about 555,689 other people I know.

If Todd Palin had his way, that would be Alaska. And Sarah can be your President!

I wouldn't mind being governed by a half-wit if we were truly free (which she advocates bans on drugs, gm, prosti., gambling, etc.) and my money wasn't redistributed to leeches.

The US needs to return to a manufacturing economy, become an exporter of resources, return to more American/capitalist values, and fix the debt problem. The American culture also needs to be reminded what once made us great. I can guarantee it wasn't socialistic policies.

Oh. Yeah. I see your point.

And welcome to the board, by the way. :)

Does it matter that you think concisely, clearly and are able to verbalize your points? Yeah, I kind of think it does.

I did; I may have misplaced a sentence and used a wrong transition. It's an anonymous message board. Who cares? Before you say you do, I am very, very good at english when I feel like it. You wouldn't want to bark up that tree.

I'm very confused. I gave you a huge compliment and you somehow reversed it.

There is no poll here, but I am sure that this country will last until well after I am dead. We have had bumps in the road since the founding, today is no different.

Haha. My bad, I took that the wrong way and obviously wasn't thinking.

How are we fast approaching a date that occurred 9 years ago? Maybe we should put mathematics as a higher priority.

or just focus on basic counting, money, and financial management instead of stuff like algebra and trigonometry.
