I'm happy to let the remaining hardline Democrats refuse to read the room and make this huge mistake in thinking it won't be seen as their fault.

Democrats are the ones demanding new budgeting to be added to the CR. Democrats still think they can gaslight this, but it only really works on their dwindling number of supporters.

People in this thread who think it will be the Republicans fault because they aren't willing to nuke the Filibuster are just being goofy. You want the Republicans to take away the Democrats only power as the minority ... for what, exactly?

US Congressional rules were always designed to give the minority party bargaining power over important legislation. That Democrats choose to use that to demand more spending on illegal aliens and USAID is just the Democrats playing a game of chicken with themselves.

BTW, there were two times during the Biden administration where the funding bill was passed after the deadline so the government shutdown for ~1 hour.

An hour, you say? So the agencies never shut down is what you're saying. And who controls the House of Representatives now? The Senate?

Cool, cool.

So under Trump, government shutdown and we're heading towards another shutdown. Under Biden, no shutdown.

Well I think we found a common denominator.
 
Common denominator is Democrats being unreasonable. In 2018, Democrats refused to fund border security. In 2025, Democrats want healthcare funding for illegal alien criminals.

What is most interesting about this shutdown is that Republicans have refused to nuke the filibuster, a tactic that was pushed hard by Chuck Schumer during the Biden administration. Guess Chuck is happy now that he didn’t get his wish then.

So what we have is that MAGA continually refuses to negotiate with the Democrats to pass CRs and force shutdowns. And we saw that both in Trump's first term and now in his second.
 
Democrats don't negotiate. They just want things their way no matter what.

Democrats are insisting on extending COVID subsidies that have expired. If COCID was such a big problem, why didn't they do that when they were in charge? Joe Biden saved us from COVID, or so I have been told.

When the most coherent Democrat in the Senate is the one who had a stroke, it says a lot about that party.
 
Schumer is probably moaning at the other dems about being obstructionists.

Negotiate with them, the big thing they're pushing for is to roll back cuts to Medicare. They could work something out if MAGA wasn't thinking that this is Road House.
