How do we come together

Of the options below - which would have the single biggest impact on uniting our country?

  • Republicans need to stand down

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • The media needs to obey the President

    Votes: 0 0.0%

  • Total voters
    48
Ahh... "studying" to convince yourself that absolutely crystal clear text means something other than what it says.

The key to 7:1 is 7:2. It's a side effect of splitting text into verses. They weren't written with numbers and should't be interpreted as if a verse is a stand alone thing.

Read as a whole, the paragraph is about the danger of hypocrisy. ie God will judge you with the same measure you use to Judge others. So it's not a good idea to go around suggesting that people are going to end up in hell unless you're looking to join them.

It's the Bible itself which says people who fail to repent, etc., will wind up in Hell (Luke 13:3, Revelation 21:8, etc., etc.)

Using your "biblical logic" (which BTW is like believing in Santa Claus), Trump would be in the same boat:

So what? Michele baby will join him there if she doesn't forgive.

What would be a good start would be to stop accusing everybody you disagree with of being racist, misogynist, homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic, Islamophobic, etc. etc. etc. etc.

Also, stop acting like women and minorities are so "victimized" and "down-trodden"...

Ignoring racism and bigotry and making it so that women and minorities can't be victims........somehow I don't think that option is a solution.

Not directly. Limited number of poll options. However 3rd party would fit that most closely- and creating an entirely new government given our enemies on the world stage could be disastrous.

A third party would bring in all the same limitations as the other two parties. There is a new way.

I see you pointing a very large finger at the media. What is that makes the media good? If the president is a complete piece of **** and the media calls him out on it and reports negatively on a ****ty person is that really them being dishonest? Isn't it useful for the media to report regardless of how it makes politicians look and not just repeat what they are told to say? The office of the president should never control the media. The media should not fear the government - the government should fear the media. You speak to bad, hateful, and destructive behavior being universally condemned however you seem to be condemning only those who speak ill of Trump - yet ignoring those in political positions who are performing the behaviors that are being reported on.

Part of the job of an elected official in all western democracies is to deal with the media, which sometimes can be hostile. And the job also requires dealing with opposition, which is often hostile. This hostility helps make democracy work. And there are good ways and there are bad ways to deal with this hostility.

The current president seems to think that he is above these hostile forces, for which every other elected official has had to deal with in their political careers. And unfortunately, much of his base seems to think so as well. I suspect 10% of Americans would prefer a Trump monarchy than a democratic nation. Scary.

We don't need to come together. The right pulls us into darkness and then wants to call it good, sorry no. It's like a battered spouse having their life ruined and then getting back together because they say we both made mistakes and it will be better now. Anyone dumb enough to take the bait deserves what happens again. Neo Nazi Arthur Jones received 25 percent of the vote in Illinois. The myth these kinds of people are rare is just that.

Exhibit A as to why we cant come together.

Ignoring racism and bigotry
Strawman Fallacy. That wasn't my position... I've never advocated for ignoring those things.

and making it so that women and minorities can't be victims
Strawman Fallacy... That wasn't my position... Anyone can be a victim.

........somehow I don't think that option is a solution.
It's not my option; it is your Strawman of my position.

That's another thing which would help us "come together"... to stop ****ing strawmanning other people's positions...

Nope, no mention of hell...the lake of fire destroys hell and anything else thrown into it...eternal destruction...you really should stop lying to everyone or you may end up there yourself...

"I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

We are NOT a Democracy; we are a Federated Republic.

We operate under a Constitution, which makes us a Republic, and we do this at several different levels (layers) of government... That makes us a Federated Republic.

The USA does not operate under mob rule. It operates under a Constitution.

A big part of the solution would be to stop giving equal voice and air time to fundamentalists. Because many of the democratic institutions, like the press, are privately owned now, there's more of an interest in sensationalism and profit making than conveying information that's crucial for democracy to function. So they will televise extremism because it shocks.

Rightists and leftists are a big problem right now, but it started with rightists. Please note I am not condemning the entire right wing, I'm condemning the extremist factions. Rightist populism has caused leftist reactionism, and the pendulum swings ever wider.

This seems like a manufactured problem. Cut the domestic job sector, decrease education, export wealth, and you're left with a disenfranchised population that is ripe for a populist politician to come in and start upsetting the whole system. I'm sorry, but this really did start with the GOP, all the way back to Nixon. Policy after policy squeezed the middle class into the situation they're in now, in order to increase obscene profits of the wealthy. The Dems are certainly partaking in the buffet, but they didn't create it. They reacted with more social spending. It's why the GOP, although distant from Trump, still ultimately support him. In many ways he still tows the line, even if he's wacko.

The original leak was never plugged. It was expanded and continually explained away. Now we have populism and rightism, which is always a consequence of people becoming more poor and more uneducated. When the Nazi Party took power in Germany, they did so because Europe had economically punished the German people into a miserable existence, and that made the concerns of every day people an easy selling point for Hitler. He rose to power, not because of his philosophy that led to the Final Solution, but because people believed he could bolster the economy. And he did... through war and divisive politics.

It's too late to turn back the clock now IMO. We are already on a collision course with a full on rightist government. It's just a matter of time before the Supreme Court is compromised.

This could've all been remedied by keeping the resources of America for all Americans.... keeping education cheap, keeping the labor sector robust. Instead, idealogues got in there who thought "why should we pay for somebody else" as a means to pilfer and horde a robust consumer middle class. Now nobody has anything and they're turning to heir fuhrer to go after imaginary culprits.

When the People are stressed to the max with daily living, they become fearful, and this makes them stupid. All it takes is a demagogue to start pointing the finger at a straw man and everyone gets on board. The mid-terms have proven we are on a collision course. No doubt about it.

We are a divided nation right now. What needs to happen in order for the US to come together?

Ever since left wing academia started the trend of hyphenated origin names, we lost our common connection as a singular nation. A hyphenated person is forever seen as somewhat less than a “full” American. You are nothing more than an affirmative action check box. “Personnel says we need two more African Americans, and one Vietnamese American”. “and while you are at it put in an ad for a project manager”.

We do not operate under a constitution any longer. We just pretend to.

Matthew 23:
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and [v]cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may become clean also. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

We need to figure out that what we are doing is a colossally dumb idea, something that we would know already if we were not so damned ignorant, but education has failed and people to often choose to live in their fantasies rather than reality....so here we are.....

The BIG PAIN that is coming was completely self inflicted, we should have known better, history is very clear on what the wrong thing to do is.

Sure, Mithros - anyone who doesn't agree with your left-wing nonsense is a hypocrite and a pharisee.

Nice try.

How can hell be forever when it is thrown into the lake of fire to be destroyed? lol...

Fire is symbolic in the Bible representing everlasting destruction, nothing else...everything you say is a contradiction...

Doesn't a thread title like this belong in the "Sex and Sexuality" section?

Job 15:
“Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; And your own lips testify against you.

So what? Michele baby will join him there if she doesn't forgive.

James 4:
Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?

Romans 2:
Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things. 3 But do you suppose this, O man, [c]when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God?

Romans 14:
But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God

How do we come together

i have come up with a few scenarios.

1. space alien attack

2. total economic collapse

3. incoming asteroid the size of something that Bruce Willis might, just might, be able to blow up.

4. right now, over me.

You don't need a plan - just a promise. Then if you don't do it - blame the other guy. This is America no matter what you say half the country will believe you.

The bipartisan congressional master plan is to spend more than they dare ask for in taxation and call it essential to a healthy (or sick) economy. It obviously works as proven by a re-election rate of over 90%. It's much like an obese guy claiming that his diet is working because althiough he gains weight each year he feels better about it.

None of the above.

My answer is two-part:

1. The media...especially the so-called news organization...need to end their constant attacks on the President. They need to get back to the journalistic professionalism they once had.

2. The Democrats need to end their constant attacks on the President.

If those two things would happen, the President would be happy to sit down, work together with everyone in Congress and negotiate mutually beneficial courses of action. The useful idiots who listen to the media and the Democrats would fall in line.

1. The President needs to be a President and not a petulant child. It his job to set the standard; to rise above the criticism. The criticism goes with the job. He needs to be man enough to let it roll off his shoulders rather than cry like a baby that people hurt his feelings. The job of the President means being 2nd guessed and challenged. Its the job. Man up and do it, Mr. President. Your crying is not very becoming.

2. The President needs humility. The job is about America, not about Trump. the United States of America and the office of the POTUS are greater than Trump. He needs to understand his place in history. He does not.

3. The President needs to stop his habitual lying. One of the roles of the press is to fact check the President. When a president makes a false claim, it is the job of the press to call it out; to fact check. When most of what the president asserts are fundamentally lies, the press is going to spend a lot of time calling him out. When you lie and get called on it, you have a lot of balls to cry about it (see #1).

However, as we know, items 1,2 and 3 will not happen, so solution #4 is the President must go. Tuesday was like groundhog day in the sense that we can take away that we have no more than 2 more years of this nonsense. The President will be gone soon.
