I know I said I would not take part in the discussions on the subject anymore, since I can't stop laughing, but I just have to ask....

it is 2022 after al...

And when I say 35 boxes I am including those he returned earlier this year.

I'd ask...

djt showed no interest in these documents when he was the President, why is he interested in them now?

I doubt that he was getting the documents for himself without assistance.

Yeah that is strange. Spy reports on Macron is obvious, to have leverage o to give someone else (Putin) leverage, but the nuclear documents, that is really .... Honestly it can only be to sell or give them to a third party. It isn't like he can fire weapons from his home with the help of those documents..

But I am asking the question because I had a question from another poster when this news first came. He asked me if I believed they had copies of the documents Trump took. I answered no, feeling confused, but accepting that the US still had a paperbased archive system,. It took me a while before I realized my own stupidity... But I since seen similar postings that suggest others believe likewise.

he ordered one of his underbosses to get them.

Aren't the documents in question things that were never turned over to the National Archives?

The outgoing administration is supposed to turn over their documents so the National Archives and Records Administration can determine which records should be preserved.

Could have been the case with some of the documents (like letters from Kim Jong-un) but not for the Nuclear weapon systems. Those he has to have printed from the databas. And the digital print should , even if he tried to cover his tracks, have been easy for the FBI to see.

Wouldn't the President receive documents as background in the course of his duties? Such as during briefings on sensitive topics, or if they were requested for historical information related to a current event?

If such documents were kept and locally stored after usage throughout a President's term in office, it's possible they could be shipped out at the end of their term.

Naturally they are all digitized, but the original still exists.
My bet Dotard has the original paper version, which were brought to him for political discussion, policy discussion or whatever.
With his attitude, that the President has all the power in the world and can do whatever he wants, he just kept them. I do not think he understands the legal implications and has been rather slopy with top secret info. I think he honestly does not understand the secret or top secret or wooperdooper secret stuff.

Does that matter, absolutely NO.

Lets not forget he never conceded and how screwed up his mind is he probably things he is still President, or has Presidential rights or whatever to those documents in his possession.
I do not think its malice, just him being over his head into CTs and his own glory.

Lock him up

Lock him up
Put him right in gen-pop. The skinheads and Russian mobsters will make sure he's safe. He'll do just fine. When he gets pardoned in a couple of years, he'll have a few tattoos and a brand new bag of lies to tell the grandchildren. And whoever else is listening.

I like the tattoo part, that tear drop, lots of jail birds have would look cute on him.
But I don't think he will be locked up, or arrested. If this ever goes to court, he would get probation and a fine, at the best.
Just enough to keep him from running again.

Even if he deserves it, he is a former President

Then why did he refuse to return these documents when he was asked nicely to do so REPEATEDLY? And remember, these are documents that don't just walk out of the WH. Someone had to remove them from the WH clandestinely. How would they do that "innocently"?

At some point it became obvious he had no intention of returning those documents. That is when the request for a search warrant was drawn up.

I don't believe that they go to the National Archive until the POTUS leaves office, but I'm not sure. The TS & above sure should remain in the WH until declassified.

I believe they are paper. Nothing is safe on a database connected to the interweb.

Not connected to the web, no, but paper? We haven't done that since the 90th.

Well, we know from an anonymous source familiar with what Donald Trump would do under hypothetical circumstances that he had top secret nuclear documents which he would be able to sell to "America's enemies," and which he clearly could not find a good hiding spot in 18 months, nor could he copy them in a photocopier or scan them into a portable hard drive. It was known for 18 months by our vaunted "17 intelligence agencies" who were 100% sure he had conspired with Russians "linked to" Vladimir Putin in order to steal the 2016 election, but they waited while this huge national security threat sat there for 18 months, until they had waited long enough. So, in order to prevent him from destroying or distributing the documents he had in his possession for 18 months, they raided his house to get them. Of course, now that they have whatever they found, there couldn't possibly be any need to take further action, because, like, why would anyone think the information had been copied and could still be distributed to "America's enemies" by this evil man who the FBI had just raided to stop him from doing what he plainly still could very well do.....

indeed

why he had these documents and hide them is a question we need an answer to.

But his cult simply does not care, Trump first, last and forever!

We have no idea who else may have copied them, scanned them or otherwise gotten a hold of them, they were in a closet with (I hear) golf clubs & shoes. Not saying any one has, but the possibility is great.

I honestly do not understand how their bias can actually allow them to believe with no second thoughts.

Blind faith.

They have actually closed off rational though for the gratification the cult beliefs bring them.

You call others a cult, but you don't even know what "these documents" are, yet you post as if you do.

They are about Government property & don't belong is some closet in Fla. The twice Impeached loser has no rights to them.
When he builds his Presidential Library, perhaps if he goes through protocol, many would be housed there. You don't just load 'em into your basement without telling anybody.

We do know they were confidential, Trump should never have taken them, Trump did not give them back when asked, Trump had counsel sign that all were returned.

I don't see how the discussion can get past this.

And these documents in question have sequential serial numbers. It is all part of the custodian protocols. It was quite obvious that some documents were not returned. Why did Trump's lawyer lie and say they were returned?
