First, Obama falsely portrayed Gaddafi as a monster; then, he lied about the need for harsh sanctions to punish him for crimes he never committed and, finally, he launched an illegal war under a pretext as phony as Lyndon Johnson’s Tonkin Gulf Resolution and George W. Bush’s Weapons of Mass Destruction.

ok

Susan Rice primed the pump with calling Qadaffi troops "Viagra rape fueled" ( Amnesty found no evidence)
Hillary went around screaming "Qadaffi must go" and made him a military target, but the French were the initial lead voices.
while the USA air led in sorties, tonnage, missions. command and control

Libya has had failures in water to Tripoli ( at one point people drilled into sidewalks for water)
amist a continuing civil war brought on by NATO,, creating lots and lots of terrorists -including ISIS

Hillary justified it all with "we came we saw he died" ( after flying into Tripoli using her unsecured Blackberry)

What the hell is CovertAction Magazine and why are they dwelling on the Obama era?

And dig the hyperbolic title: a Hell Hole of Murder, Slave Trade, Sex Trafficking and Mass Starvation

You don't know anything about Gaddafi or Libya. Several US oil companies had excellent concessions in Libya.

Your source is garbage.

NATO had NTC advisors ( the group fighting Qadaffi) on the ground, and the theory is getting rid of Qadaffi
woulld be a boon for western oil companies. ( how much of the spoils it gets)

There is also he story of Libya being targeted for it's gold . Qadaffi wanted the gold backed dinar to be the new standard

“This gold was accumulated prior to the current rebellion and was intended to be used to establish a pan-African currency based on the Libyan golden Dinar. This plan was designed to provide the Francophone African Countries with an alternative to the French franc (CFA).”

Blumenthal spells out the reason for NATO’s attack and France’s imperial plunder, “French intelligence officers discovered this plan shortly after the current rebellion began, and this was one of the factors that influenced President Nicholas Sarkozy’s decision to commit France to the attack on Libya.”

There were five reasons for France’s illegal war with NATO against Libya. Sarkozy sought, according to Blumenthal, “a. A desire to gain a greater share of Libyan oil production, b. Increase French influence in North Africa, c. Improve his internal situation in France, d. Provide the French military with an opportunity to assert its position in the world, e. Address the concern of his advisors over Qaddafi’s long term plans to supplant France as the dominant power in Francophone Africa.”

~~

I personally think it was just NATO arrogance as usual. Not gold, not oil, not "Rothchild banks"
Madeline Albright was the author of "responsibility to protect" and Hillary took up her mantle

all that is a facet of post-Qadaffi libya - especially slave trade - due to a dysfunctional Libyan government-
Or so called "militia rule", and local militias became the source of law and order

i think the title refers: (OP)
to The new government ( Qadaffi take over from king Idris)) not only liberated women from sexual and domestic abuse; it also granted them full and equal rights with men, and they won more than half the seats in the People’s Congress.

LoL. Libya has had the gold dinar for decades. 7 oil companies including US oil companies had active concessions in Libya.

Libya imports 97% of it's food and they don't pay in gold.. The interest would eat them alive. The status quo was fine, but nobody could keep Gaddafi in power short of a massive occupation force.

These clots don't know anything about Libya or Gaddafi.

King Idris had 25 years of experience in governance before he became king. He's responsible for the social programs... and improvements in healthcare and education...also women's rights. He invested Libya's oil revenue in Libya and it's people.

Gaddafi nearly killed their oil business in the early 1970s by prematurely nationalizing Libyan oil. He also isolated Libya by getting rid of Wheelus and Tobruk.

Gaddafi was a Bedouin kid with no education.

Obama's entire foreign policy record was nothing short of disaster. He continued the occupation of Iraq, stared a new war in Libya (and got a diplomat killed), and let Putin take over Crimea without consequence. And all of this after he won the Nobel Peace Prize (what a joke that award is).

The only thing he got right was killing Bin Laden, but that sort of fell into his lap.

See tell us what you know then.

See tell us what you know then.
The US was hopeful that they could identify Eastern tribes that would support a return to the Idris Constitution. That's what the work at the annex was about.

Over the last nearly hundred years since the end of war two since ike made his famous military industrial complex speech

It's sadly become one of the most true and honest assessment of America's future.

We've used our military might not to make things better in the world but to further the needs of american corporations and political agendas

The little brown wars of presidents over the last century are a great example of that

It's also interesting to know all of the complaints about how hackable the american electoral computer systems are

You know why they're so hackable? Because the c I a wanted to make sure control foreign elections

To serve the Needs of our corporations and political parties. We've thumbed our nose at everything this country was supposed to stand for

Thank you g o p thank you d n c

On Earth the sky is blue during fair weather. What color is the sky on the planet you live on? Just asking for a friend.

Gaddafi was a Bedouin kid with no education.

Under King Idris, educating women was considered suspicious. During the last decade of his rule, females enrolled in primary education was only between 11 and 19%. Under Article 14 of the Libyan Constitutional Declaration in 1969, education was made a right, and by 1990 the figure stood at 48%.

During the 1970s, the attraction of employment as domestics tended to decline, as educated and ambitious women turned to more lucrative occupations.

Have you bothered to read the Idris Constitution or the Green Book that replaced it?

Where did you live in Libya in 1970?

Response from the chicken hawks? An OK, read only the hyperbolic headline, and talking about the sky.

Why am I not surprised?

curious. were you on another message board? Because i had good conversations with a woman who was a big "fan" of king Idris.

But no i havent read those. and Im no blanket supporter of qadaffi, exceept he was able to bring a decent standard of living to most of Libya ( health care, literacy) ,, and from a terrorist p.o.v. Qadaffi really helped keep down the jihadi Islamists,
such as the Libyan Islamic Fighting group..He allowed the Brit SAS and the American CIA roam freely in the east ( Cyrenaica)

Are you familiar with his warning as the west plotted to take him out?
“We are not fighting them, they are attacking us. I want to tell you the truth. It is not a difficult situation at all. The story is simply this: an organisation has laid down sleeping cells in north Africa. Called the al-Qaida organisation in north Africa … The sleeping cells in Libya are similar to dormant cells in America before 9/11.”

Gaddafi added: “I will have to arm the people and get ready for a fight. Libyan people will die, damage will be on the Med, Europe and the whole world. These armed groups are using the situation [in Libya] as a justification – and we shall fight them.”
