We've reached point where it's basically impossible to reason with certain sections of society. They so far off the deep end that we effectively live in different universes. Everything the right-wing accuses Democrats of doing, right-wing conservatives do on steroids... times ten. Pointing out right-wing hypocrisy is pointless, they just don't care. They just streamroll through it. Shaming the right-wing doesn't work, they have no capacity for shame. Appealing to common humanity and a sense of community doesn't work, the right-wing don't believe in community and are indifferent to human suffering that does not involve them. They think anyone who isn't 'like them' is a pedophile or Satan-worshipper who sacrifices babies. They don't believe in facts, and trying to persuade them with evidence is merely proof (to them) that experts who deal in facts work for a globalist cabal. There is no shared reality.

The right-wing are authoritarians and want to impose their views and 'values' using whatever means necessary, including (and especially) by leveraging the government. What you choose to do with your life is their business. Freedom to them means the ability to cram their freedom down your throat. Yes, yes... the right-wing says the same thing about the left. It's all equal and literally nothing matters.

If and when the right-wing retake control of government, I would say America is pretty close to being a failed state. They won't repeat the mistakes of last time by allowing 'normies' to exist within government. What remains of the Republican establishment has been whipped and beaten into submission, and the Democrats can't get out of their own way.

The USA has gone ‘round the bend a few years ago. I cannot pinpoint the apex, but it is firmly behind us. The only thing left is whatever entertainment value that can be gleaned from the time we have left……….

I know this will sound Pollyanna-ish, but I still have hope. The media likes to keep things going but, really, how many people do you know who dress up like that?

At the latest Trump rally a few days ago, the networks that were covering it never pulled back to show the size of the crowd. And unlike at previous rallies, when Trump finished, the crowd quit cheering before he even left the stage.

It's true that Republicans are bending over backwards to get Trump's endorsement, but that's no longer a sure-fire path to even winning the nomination. And once these GOP'ers are in office, there's no guarantee they'll cater to Trump's ever whim.

Again, maybe I'm too optimistic, but that's how it looks to me.

Read the post again, forget about trump, and it's not about people wearing trump glasses. trump could move to Moscow tomorrow and not much would change.

Not sure why this is earth shattering news to the masses, the whole point of division oriented politics in a system of duopoly is to create conditions where discourse, reason, and compromise are all that more unlikely to exist.

I would argue it was only a matter of time before the extremes of modern liberalism and the extremes of modern conservatism took our political direction on a course that makes it look like Authoritarian cancel culture woke security blanket needing Progressivism is fighting the hate filled and burn books Christian Taliban leaving an increasing number of people in the middle concerned about both of them.

Moreover, we see occasional forgiveness of one side for not being as extreme as their opposition depending on the subject we are speaking about.

And that amplifies the point, the intention of this sort of political division is more about ensuring the other side is wrong about something than actually fixing something. Political expediency and self-serving intentions make these subjects the weapons to use against one another. And takes us that much further away from reason in dealing with the issues we continually face largely because they are not really helped.

Trump did not do this anymore than anyone else, but they all sure took advantage of the condition to their own ends and their own establishments of power entirely devoid of doing all that much for the issues they run on.

I have reas nearly identical rants from the far right, it's uncanny. Just change a few words and flip it around.

You forgot half the equation. Just as rabid and even more dangerous is the anti-Trump cult. It's more dangerous because it controls the bulk of media.

Again, extremes on both sides are authoritarian. The left is much more prone to tolerate politically-oriented violence, as we saw in the summer of fire.

The right is trying to gain control through the democratic process, by winning elections. That's a good thing.

TDS - the gift that just keeps on giving, and giving, and giving, and giving, and........

Oh, yes, the Republicans are terrible folks, and the Dems are the most wonderful people that have ever stridden this earth.

The OP is 100% correct: The "United" States of America is headed for failed-state status.

That is why some very thoughtful people on both sides suggest that the nation have a dialogue on how the current political configuration can be adjusted.

There is simply no sense that people of different viewpoints should constantly be at one another's throat.

Why not simply partition the country?

After all, the Czechs and the Slovaks decided to dissolve Czechoslovakia. And the two now seem happier.

A realigned United States would be a win-win for everyone.

Yeah, I addressed this in the original post. False equivalencies are the bread and butter of conservativism, along with hypocrisy and projection.

This post too ^ is so incredibly like how the other side responds. Just change one word.

The battle which exists in our profit-driven and thus ratings-driven media results in exaggeration and hyperbole in headlines [Chaos in the Markets!] and in the copy which follows. Those who don't take this, and a similar trend in the palaver of politicians, into account will develop views which match.

This has happened in the past in these United States of America and, people being people, will do so again. Living through it can be a tad of a nuisance, as those of us of a more reflective nature have to learn to discount the fervor of friends and neighbors.

But we can.

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

How simple do you think that that would be?
Very simple.

Both conservatives and liberals and moderates would be overjoyed that finally there would safe zones for them.

Just imagine: a group of liberal states would form a contiguous new nation devoted to the most liberal polices.
A group of conservative states would form a ... conservative policies.
A group of moderate states ... moderate policies.

The liberals could disband the police completely.
The conservatives could ban abortion.
The moderates could severely punish only crimes of violence.

In the coming years, there will be such dramatic changes in this unique nation that only a harmonious divorce will prevent unpleasant consequences for everyone.
