More than a foot of rain in some places flooded low-lying areas across the Houston region on Monday, forcing officials to suspend bus and rail service, close schools and government offices and urge residents to stay home amid what authorities said were extremely dangerous conditions.

I'm OK. Am trapped inside my home, unable to leave due to the high water, but I am not flooded, and didn't lose power. Other parts of Houston are not so lucky. As of this time, a couple of places in the area got 20 inches of rain, and hundreds, maybe thousands of people have lost everything they own. Flooding here is as bad as Tropical Storm Alison was. Looks like the worst has finally passed..... we hope. Watching the weather reports and crossing our fingers.

Holy balls that rain was crazy. Seriously, it swept everybody's trashcans away in the neighborhood away. Trash is ****ing everywhere.

Was just watching on CNN. Keep yer head out of the water, Dan.

Amazing...some places without nearly enough water....and other places looking like a lake.

Hell of a planet, this Earth.

That's one of the reasons it's dangerous to go out into the flood waters. If you get a cut while in the waters, get a tetanus shot immediately.

3 dead so far. I'm surprised it isn't higher.

I honestly didn't know how bad it was, so bad that it had Houston largely shut down. That's crazy.

I got really lucky. I played at the Homegrown Festival at the Last Concert Cafe last night. Got home at about 2 in the morning. Just as I got my equipment unloaded and got inside, it hit. Talk about timing. LOL.

I took out the trash a bit before it happened.

Trash pickup from mother nature. LOL.

There was a tornado in one of the northeast subdivisions. Picked up their trash too. LOL.

So, I've got to ask this:

"With the deeply fundamental Christianity coursing through many Texan's veins, have you seen any of your neighbors building an Ark"?

Nope, and I'm not going to bother asking either. For us, it's not something to be political about. We all bleed the same color.

Everyone, including me loves to pick on and make fun of weather people. BUT this year, I'll give them a ton of credit. As soon as they saw El Nino forming way back in Oct.-Nov. they said the Northeast will have a very mild winter with very little snow. It was probably the mildest winter I ever remember. I didn't once take out my snowblower.

And they said the West Coast and Southwest will be wet, maybe very wet.. Last week I saw pictures of California reservoirs that were almost completely empty last year. Now? They are dumping water out of them because they are overfilled. They nailed it.

Anyway stay safe down there. Stay alert.

Hope things work out.

But if you see people building a REALLY big boat - keep a close eye on your pets.

Seriously, glad you still have power but be careful about drinking the water - might want to boil it first. But I am no expert.

Not worried about it. I am high and dry. Just a bit of cabin fever. LOL. :)

Good to hear!

I too live in Houston. My area got a lot of rain, but little to no flooding. It is very bad in some areas though, and we do expect more rain over the next three days. I guess we'll see how this works out.

I think the worst is over here. Corpus Christi is getting their ass kicked right now, but looks like that mess won't be headed up here. Looks like that is headed for the Gulf.

At least five people have died. Cameras recorded a vehicle deliberately going around barricades and right into the water. Guy driving an 19-wheeler elsewhere did the same. "Don't drown--turn around!"
