The House voted Wednesday to pass a bill raising the nation’s debt ceiling, after days of wrangling Republican lawmakers to unify behind the package, which would bolster House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s position at the negotiating table with the White House.
The final vote was 217-215, with four Republicans – Ken Buck of Colorado, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Tim Burchett of Tennessee and Matt Gaetz of Florida – voting against the bill. McCarthy could only lose four votes and prevail on the vote.
(CNN) House votes to pass debt ceiling bill in win for McCarthy

It appears Speaker McCarthy passed a Bill out of his caucus. But did he craft a Bill that can pass into law? That's the real test.
SChumer hasn't even seen it and he's already taken a dump on it.(CNN) House votes to pass debt ceiling bill in win for McCarthy

Of course. It cuts spending. Garlic and crosses to Democrats.Dead on arrival in the senate...
I’m surprised he got it through the House.(CNN) House votes to pass debt ceiling bill in win for McCarthy

I am betting that its dead in the Senate....

The debt limit has to be raised. The question is what spending cuts is Biden willing to agree to in order to get a deal.I’m surprised he got it through the House.
The article states Biden will meet with McCarthy, but won't compromise on raising the debt limit. Given the money has been already budgeted, and the country's credit & economy are at stake, I can't really blame him.
We're only one of two countries to have this ridiculous debt limit, and the other country is so small and out-of-the-way I don't even remember it.
Of course. It cuts spending. Garlic and crosses to Democrats.

It takes both sides to make a deal.Given that the money was legally budgeted already, I'm not sure why Biden should agree to cuts? Let McCarthy try to cut his own budget, is my feeling.
Inflation/COL went up 9%, and he wants to cut?
republicans spend more than democrats and increase both the debt and deficits more so lol.Of course. It cuts spending. Garlic and crosses to Democrats.

The Democrats in the last Congress should have anticipated this and passed a debt ceiling increase when they had the majority. Of course, it’s possible they did anticipate this and decided this fight was worth having knowing the Republicans would get the blame.I'm not sure why "a deal" needs to be made? The money's been budgeted, and the debt limit raisehas been a perfunctory matter until just recently. I think we should get back to it. Then McCarthy can do the budget he's been tasked with for next year, and not much around with last year's budget.
Obama held tight the last time Ted Cruz and his miscreants tried to hold him up, and they eventually caved - receiving the bulk of the blame.
Now is the time for Biden to stay strong against them and call them out, like Obama did. I suspect Biden remembers their caving, well.

I may have heard it wrong but it sounds like Biden isn't willing to negotiate. The debt limit has to be raised. The question is what spending cuts is Biden willing to agree to in order to get a deal.
What a joke. It is nothing but a radical right wish list that will tank the economy and schedules another debt ceiling fight for the election year. Does McCarthy even know that a real budget must be bipartisan and be negotiated with Senate leaders so it can pass both Houses and be signed by the President?SChumer hasn't even seen it and he's already taken a dump on it.
We absolutely were going to have this fight because there’s a presidential election next year and the only thing that matters is political posturing.I'm suspect the bolded's exactly it.
But there's no reason to have "this fight". Raising the debt limit has been a perfunctory matter until recent years. Only recently has this become a side-show where the New Congress attempt to enforce its will upon the Old Congress.
You know how many countries have this asinine system of a debt ceiling? Two! Us & some tiny country I've never heard of before! It's ridiculous to have a debt ceiling in the first place, much less fight about the money already budgeted & allocated, especially given it was allocated by the previous Congress.
I heard that too.I may have heard it wrong but it sounds like Biden isn't willing to negotiate.
Biden will negotiate on the budget not the debt ceiling. This bill is neither an is an insult to the HouseI may have heard it wrong but it sounds like Biden isn't willing to negotiate.
Soon, Veto Corleone will make him an offer he can't refuse. It appears Speaker McCarthy passed a Bill out of his caucus. But did he craft a Bill that can pass into law? That's the real test.

My two cents is the Constitution should be amended to eliminate the debt ceiling altogether. Barring that, the next party in control should raise the limit so high we won’t reach it for 100 years. The REAL fight and debate should be about the budget.
I may have heard it wrong but it sounds like Biden isn't willing to negotiate.
Either the Senate Dems will squash the bill...and take the blame...or they will chicken out, pass the bill and let Biden veto it...and Biden will take the blame.(CNN) House votes to pass debt ceiling bill in win for McCarthy

The Democrats did pass a a debt ceiling hike to get through the 2020 midterms with zero help from Republicans. The Democrats in the last Congress should have anticipated this and passed a debt ceiling increase when they had the majority. Of course, it’s possible they did anticipate this and decided this fight was worth having knowing the Republicans would get the blame.
