"The House passed a pair of bills Wednesday night aimed at combating the nationwide baby formula shortage as Democrats scramble to get more supplies on store shelves. The House voted 414-9 to approve a measure that would allow more formula to be purchased with money from a federal program that aids low-income women, infants and children. In a more partisan 231-192 vote, the House passed a bill that would send $28 million to the Food and Drug Administration to help boost formula supply and prevent future shortages. Only 12 Republicans voted for that measure. Both bills now head to the Senate.

Republicans voting against the bill bashed Biden for not doing more. Just what he, or Congress should do was not remarked upon.

Political posturing at its best. Increasing the problem at its worst.

What's the use of spending money so the government can buy up baby formula? How will this put more formula on the store shelves? Not only is this posturing, this is going to take what little formula there OFF the shelves.

The GOP has been bellyaching about the FDA not doing enough about the problem however when the FDA requests funds to address the problem they refuse. These will be the same GOP'ers using the shortage as a campaign issue which is likely why they don't really want the problem solved...just like inflation.

So what should be done?

If the money was to be used for formula for Russian babies, more of the GQP would have voted for it.

That would be an accurate assessment if that is what these two bills does but alas, neither bill has the government buy up baby formula.. Good lord, did you even bother to look at the bills?

No. The govt does not manufacture baby formula. You don't know. Now you do.
The link says it wants to spend 28 million in part to boost supply

In fairness, the wording describing the first bill is a tad ambiguous. One would actually have to read the link to understood what it meant 😉

So, the Republicans bitch about being vulnerable to shortages, then all but 12 vote against a bill to help prevent future shortages. Par for the course.

Did you actually read the link or just the part snipped for the OP?
Of course I read the link another dishonest news article to sway uneducated democrats, no the government doest make baby formula

The government manufactures baby formula, who knew?
According to the article, the bill that passed overwhelmingly would allow more formula to be purchased with money from a federal program that aids low-income women, infants and children.

The second bill would pay for additional FDA employees, including inspectors who could help approve domestic or international formula manufacturing companies.

I can’t see why Republicans wouldn’t vote for that second bill, which is a no brainer and only costs $28 million.

Ok, what was dishonest about the news article?

What the heck are you talking about? What is dishonest in that article? Either you did not read the link and made an incorrect assumption or you read the link and have an issue with comprehension.

Show your work for your conclusion.

One bill provides funds to buy and stock baby formula to be available for low-income women, infants and children in times of shortages.
The other bill gives the FDA the infrastructure to inspect and approve domestic and international formula manufacturing companies.

Aren't those good things? If some are complaining that there are only a few domestic suppliers, isn't expanding the number of suppliers exactly what they are asking for? Or is it just the knee-jerk response from Republicans to oppose any solutions the Biden Administration suggests.

The real test will be in the Senate.

The primary purpose of the first bill is to expand the brand names poor people can buy through WIC. Right now there are strict limits on what brands WIC can be used for.

"The House voted 414-9 to approve a measure that would allow more formula to be purchased with money from a federal program that aids low-income women, infants and children"

"The other bill passed on Wednesday — the Access to Baby Formula Act, sponsored by Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-Conn. — would allow more formulas to be purchased with benefits under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, or WIC."

I'll let their constituents handle that.
You should tweet all the Democrats who voted yes and scold them.

Or at least trash talk them on the internet.
