Jan. 6 committee subpoenas Proud Boys, Oath Keepers

The committee chair said the far-right groups and their leaders "have relevant information about how the violence erupted at the Capitol."

The bipartisan panel issued subpoenas Tuesday “demanding information from groups involved in violence both leading up to and on January 6th."


The subpoenas seek information and testimony from the organizations and their leaders: Elmer Stewart Rhodes, president of the Oath Keepers, and Henry "Enrique" Tarrio, who was chairman of the Proud Boys at the time of the riot.

“We believe the individuals and organizations we subpoenaed today have relevant information about how violence erupted at the Capitol and the preparation leading up to this violent attack," committee chair Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said in a statement Tuesday.

1/6 wasn't a big deal.

Whoever the individuals are that sowed the seed and organized the event need to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. And I'd wager that Roger Stone and Trumps clown kids are some of those ringleaders.

They should subpoena Nancy Pelosi. Isn't the Speaker responsible for security of the building? What if some actual terrorists had gotten that far.

Of course they do. Why not BLM and ANTIFA? I bet there are a few others on the watch list as well but democrats never investigate their voter base. Some experts say you shouldn't call the crimes out. It's ridiculous.

I looked it up and you're right. Nancy Pelosi has no responsibility whatsoever when it comes to security of the Capitol Building where she works. I'm sure she has more important things on her mind.

Again, being that this was a massive assault on our nation's Capitol while in session that also injured over 140 police deserves and causing a few deaths earns itself extra investigation into the who and what brought it to happen. Again, if this were Democratic supporters assaulting our nation's Capitol to stop a Republican elect president from being certified, I'd be calling and supporting the same against any possible Democrats/supporters and militias involved. When this happens at the very top of our Government ladder, the path to justice and anything possibly learned from it should continue forth as long as possible. Even if it takes 20 years to learn it all.

Yes, they do. But here's what I fear. In the event that the whole thing is tied together as one large conspiracy, I am not sure the DOJ will act on it. Hell, at this point, no one even knows if they are even investigating the whole thing.

One indictment for Steve Bannon doesn't make for a takedown of all the conspirators. I think if it is proved that DJT himself was part of the seditious conspiracy, the AG will fail to act on it stating that he's afraid of the right-wing backlash. He's already said it once.

What we already know so far is pointing to Trumps involvement.

She is in charge with the Senate leader taking equal responsibility. That would have been Moscow Mitch at the time. And even if they failed to properly secure the capitol, it doesn't change the fact that the insurrection was planned. I believe in holding all people who had involvement on 1-6 and leading up to it should be held accountable. This includes Mitch and both the Sergeants at Arms. It goes from the WH right down to the DOJ and the DOD. Everyone failed. Still doesn't excuse conspiracy to incite insurrection.

It all began with Donald Trump before the election when he started the 'Big Lie'.

The Capital Police report to the House Sergeant of Arms and to the Senate Sergeant of Arms. The Sergeant of Arms, report to the respective leader of each house.
  • Capitol security is not solely the responsibility of the House speaker. It is provided by the sergeants-at-arms of the House and Senate, and by the Capitol Police.
  • The House sergeant-at-arms reports to the House speaker, or Pelosi at the time of the attack. The Senate sergeant-at-arms reports to the Senate majority leader — on Jan. 6, Sen. Mitch McConnell.
  • News reports indicate that in the days before the attack, House sergeant-at-arms Paul Irving resisted calls from the Capitol Police to bring in the National Guard for extra security at the Capitol because of “optics.” Irving later testified that intelligence reports didn’t show the need for the extra security, not that he rejected it because of optics.

A massive failure from top to bottom. Just goes to show how good the planners were. They duped everyone. We can never let it happen again.
 
Does anyone know if the Jan. 6 Select Committee is receiving information from the prosecutors who are pursuing charges against the insurrectionist? Are they getting information from those interviews and from the insurrectionist that are cooperating? Are they getting such information from the FBI?

The reason I ask is that the people that are being criminally processed for their actions on January 6 have information about the right wing militia leaders who were subpoenaed today. And if they are spilling their guts in order to reduce their sentences, then the militia leaders will have to be very careful lying to Congress. It puts them in a tight spot, and one they deserve.
 
The GOP are such wimps. When they are in power, they don't seize all records and demand all names and info of all political opposition, putting government agencies on them and their lawyers. Why the Republicans when in the Senate didn't have every record of any kind of the Clinton campaign and anyone connected to her including her lawyers - millions of pages - is puzzling. That is how government and democracy is supposed to act, isn't it? The party in power uses the power of government to crush all opposition.

"Sedition?" I don't think you know what that word means.

Why do you think the Democrat chair didn't want actual Republicans on the committee selected by Republican leadership for their minority position on the committee? Afraid an actually Republican might get to the bottom of 1/6 for the entire story?
