This is apparently still on-going. As of now, no word is out on the fate of the suspect or the hostages, or what the possible motive (e.x. terrorism) could be:

COLLEYVILLE, Texas -- Authorities say a man apparently took hostages Saturday during services at a synagogue near Fort Worth, Texas.

The Colleyville Police Department tweeted Saturday afternoon that it was conducting SWAT operations at the address of Congregation Beth Israel.

The services were being livestreamed on the synagogue's Facebook page for a time, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that apparent negotiations could be heard between the alleged hostage taker and police. The paper reported that an angry man could be heard ranting and talking about religion at times during the livestream, which didn't show what was happening inside the synagogue.

Shortly before 2 p.m., the man said, “You got to do something. I don’t want to see this guy dead.” Moments later, the feed cut out.

Note the time it was posted.

Hostages Freed From Texas Synagogue After Gunfire Erupts

Witnesses at the scene described hearing several loud bangs following by gun shots. Soon after, Gov. Greg Abbott declared in a statement: “Prayers answered. All hostages are out alive and safe.”
(No further info at this time about the status of the hostage taker, who is in actuality not the brother of Aafia Siddiqui)

The hostage taker is deceased. I am sure it will be a bit before we know who he really was, and his motivations. His reported actions shows a great deal of mental disturbance.

His motivation was the release of an imprisoned Pakistani terrorist.

Whom he may well have believed was NOT a terrorist at all.

After all, the US does have a recent history of locking up people (on the grounds that they were terrorists) when they weren't terrorists at all - and then not releasing them on the grounds that they had become terrorists (due to the fact that they were illegally incarcerated).

If this happened in California the perps would just get a misdemeanor but those idiots just had to do it in Texas.

Engaging in a terrorist act greatly undermines the argument that your associate, who has been convicted of terrorism, is not a terrorist.

And, it would serve to suggest that the person who engages in said terrorism action might not be the best judge of whom is or isn't a terrorist.

A man who died after taking four people hostage at a Texas synagogue has been named by the FBI as 44-year-old British national Malik Faisal Akram.

Akram began a standoff with police after disrupting a religious service at the Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, and taking hostages including the rabbi. He released one hostage unharmed after six hours.

More than 10 hours after the siege began, members of the FBI’s hostage rescue team stormed the synagogue to free the three remaining hostages. They were said to be “alive and well” after the siege had been brought to an end.

On Sunday, Joe Biden said the gunman had used weapons he got off the street to commit “an act of terror”.

The US president, who was visiting a food bank in Philadelphia, said: “I don’t have all the facts, nor does the attorney general – but allegedly the assertion was he got the weapons on the street.

“He purchased them when he landed and it turns out there apparently were no bombs that we know of … Apparently he spent the first night in a homeless shelter. I don’t have all the details yet so I’m reluctant to go into much more detail.”

Well that was a dumb thing to say, considering only one firearm was recovered...

Indeed it does. At least it casts some serious doubts as to your definition of "terrorism".
And, it would serve to suggest that the person who engages in said terrorism action might not be the best judge of whom is or isn't a terrorist.
Indeed it does (see above). On the other hand, there does appear to be some ground for believing that the deceased was a couple of aces short of a full deck.

Thank goodness no one innocent was injured or killed. It is a shame that the bastard couldn't be taken alive. How on Earth was he able to obtain a firearm?

The speculation is that it was on the street.

He went to a bar and asked around?

No law preventing Islamic extremists from purchasing firearms.

True, however, in order to purchase a gun retail in Texas, you must fill out a Form 4473.

Mind you, in order to purchase a gun in a back alley, you don't have to fill out that complicated form.

However, there IS a law preventing an 85 year-old Great Grandmother (all of whose descendants have served the maximum amount of time allowable in the US military without any disciplinary action being taken against them) who was convicted of a non-violent felony when she was 19 and hasn't had even a traffic ticket since then from purchasing firearms. See Question 21.c. of the Form 4473.
