Homicide Rates Higher in States with More Guns at Home

You liberals that are against owning guns that is your business.......You would like to see us all give up our guns so that the only people that would have them are the criminals because they sure as hell ain't going to give theirs up..........

Well I ain't giving mine up.............

One would think this same logic could be applied to the marriages, sex lives, and gynecological affairs of others, yet I observe that you have no problem sticking your nose into these issues, although they are even less your business than your gun-ownership is my business.

1069 only you could make that leap but when it comes to protecting my family in a life or death situation all those things you mentioned pale in their importance.....

Like I said though if you don't want to own a gun that is fine........just don't go looking for a private gun owner to protect you if your home is ever broken into.............

I love guns......
They are so cool aren't they?

This is MY gun.....

I don't usually post on threads that discuss gun issues. From an emotional place I am pro-gun restrictions. From a rational place, I am pro-gun education. Problems most often occur, with regards to guns, in two specific circumstances, not including random accidents, that can occur with just about anything. Either the gun is being used illegally or criminally or the gun is being used stupidly or without proper supervision or education. IMO, proper gun ownership is synomous with proper gun responsiblity and education.

I always knew there was a good reason for my mother to ban and forbid all types of guns in our household, why, my mother would not allow us to even play with toy guns, they to were banned from our home.

It's as simple as that, guns kill, our entire family has always lived without guns in our homes, thank God we never needed them for any reason.

But hey, you want guns in your homes, go ahead, I don't care, what ever turns you on, but please be careful with guns around children...

remember, guns don't kill people, people with easy access to guns kill people!

Homicide Rates Higher in States with More Guns at Home - Yahoo! News

Guns are used to kill two out of every three homicide victims in the United States, and new research shows that easy-access guns in the home make a difference. Homicide rates are highest in states where more households have guns, the national survey concludes.

The finding held even after taking into account socioeconomic status and gender.

"Our findings suggest that in the United States, household firearms may be an important source of guns used to kill children, women and men, both on the street and in their homes," said lead researcher Matthew Miller of the Harvard School of Public Health.

VPC - Who Dies - Firearm Deaths by State, 1996
Alphecca: Harvard Continues Assault on Gun Ownership

If you look ONLY at firearm homicides -- NOT SUICIDES -- as in this VPC chart(!), again, only look at the third column, per 100,000 population homicides by gun, you reach a totally different conclusion than Miller did: North and South Dakota, Alaska, Idaho, et al have very LOW rates of gun homicide. I think we all knew that already given that none of those states are considered hotbeds of criminal activity.

But here's the clincher. From that same chart, the "state" with the highest homicide rate in the U.S.? By a factor of almost four times the rate of ANY other state? It's Washington DC. It's the place where gun ownership is for all practical purposes forbidden, that is, where gun control has become a total ban on guns.

Your study was from a bias professor at a university notorious for academic dishonesty.

Nice try. Cool link. brb looking up data from the University of Chicago.

Why the hell would I need the help of a private gun owner to protect my family or home? Have you ever heard of the police?

Dang NP, this is not Iraq you know!

Hey guys, I'm trying to post an image of my favorite gun taken from the internet. How do I do it?

Do you honestly think that if someone breaks into your house he's going to let you call the police and wait 10 minutes for them to show up?

Are you some sort of time manipulating kung fu master?

No one is going to break into our house because we have 3 dogs that bite ferociously, they, in essence, are our "guns"!

I was going to link pictures of my favorite "guns", (which of course are nothing but dogs) but I forgot the HTML tags.

a sound point. We have found that if you get a Taurus that works, you have a good gun. Their QC is somewhat suspect and they have more warranty returns than any other main line brand but they do fix them and once fixed they work.

a silenced 22 takes care of any dog without any problem. I know guys on Meth Lab entry teams who carry those things just to take out the dogs. the purpose of a dog is to give you warning so you can get your gun.

Absolutely no way will the robbers bother to carry or use silencers specifically to use on dogs, get real will you, they just won't go to such extremes or even bother under such circumstances, I guarantee they will go elsewhere as soon as they hear the dogs.

probably true-you probably don't have much stuff worth stealing anyway:mrgreen:

Absolutely agree; my household is gun-free also and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Well then why not put a big sign out in your front yard announcing that there are no guns in your house and never will be.

I made this suggestion earlier. I am tired of hoplophobes who attack my rights standing under the umbrella of protection that gun owners provide these mopes.

did you know that home invasion robberies are far lower in the USA than in "disarmed nations". burglary-which is defined as breaking into an UNOCCUPIED home is far more popular because poll after poll shows thieves are more worried about being SHOT by homeowners than cops or courts

So, I've been accused several time on this thread of attacking or "attacking the rights of" gun owners, when in fact what I posted was, "My household is gun-free, and I wouldn't have it any other way."

Does that really comprise an attack, in the opinion of you Rightists?

Am I stripping you of your fundamental and constitutionally-protected civil rights by stating that my home is gun free?

So, if I walked up and said that to your face- "My home is gun free"- you'd presume that you were under attack?
What if I said it to one of your kids?
Would you perceive that your children were being "attacked"?
And if so, what would you do to protect them from said "attack"?
Would you shoot me?

95% of the cops according to most surveys (including one that Janet Reno Commissioned-it was 86'd for public consumption when it didn't say what she was hoping it would) have guns at home.

That....I agree with. Most cops that I know carry guns even when off duty.

Why not put your guns on your living room table in plain sight for all to see and be impressed?

While you are at it, put one under your pillow for quick and easy access, time is of the essence you know. Put one under your childrens pillows also, no use taking chances that they might be caught unarmed.

Don't worry about your children or any children because I'm sure they are well versed in gun-safety.

I think its very important to teach children at a young age the proper handling and safety of firearms.

I said some hoplohobes. I didn't say 1069. Read a bit better-you seem to think I was attacking you specifically rather than using your comments as a springboard. I do believe that those who are against people owning guns for self defense should have the balls to put such signs up.

sadly my son-and other well trained children-often associate and have friends who are the products of parents who are too afraid of guns to teach their children proper protocols involving weapons. I don't worry about my kids but kids of people such as you.

Yeah right, famous last words before tragedy strikes...

You ought to read A NATION OF COWARDS by Jeffrey Snider. He describes people like you and what causes your irrational hatred of guns.

Did you ever hear that story from California? Gerbil land USA required parents to lock up all guns around children-even responsible ones. One night the parents went out leaving the 13 or 14 year old daughter to watch her younger siblings. Some whacko-probably let out of jail by someone of a similar mindset to you-broke into the house. The girl tried to get the gun she had been trained to use but alas, it was locked in compliance with the socialist politicians' law. I believe two of her siblings were pickaxed to death or something equally disgusting

I keep my weapons locked up because I worry about my son having friends who were raised by parents who think like you. You are probably so terrified of guns you would never think to actually teach your children how to safely handle them

Gee, I read so many tragic stories of children killed while playing with guns that their father forgot to lock up, or that they thought the gun was empty, or in a fit of rage a man killed his wife and children, or vice versa.

The common thread to those tragedys is that they occured in gun-safety approved homes, happened in homes where the parents were stout NRA members, happened in homes where the parents were upright, outstanding, church going citizens with no criminal backgrounds.

The common thread being that they just all had easy access to guns, that's all!
