Hillary Totally Fails to Connect With Millennials in Ohio, Forces Attendees to Sign 'Loyalty Pledge' ......
Some were hoping to see former President Bill Clinton, others said they had nothing better to do at that time of day, while others still seemed to be more Bernie supporters. But one thing from Hillary’s campaign event in Cleveland on Sunday, which was supposed to showcase her appeal to millennials, was clear: enthusiasm for the former secretary of state was seemingly nowhere to be found.
Early speakers failed to fire up the crowds and efforts to do the same by the state’s former Gov. Ted Strickland, who’s running for a Senate seat in 2016, similarly flatlined. The obvious reason being that they had no clue who he was. And all of Hillary’s reminiscing about her 2008 run, well, you can guess what sort of reaction that elicited from a crowd that was barely in their teen years at the time.
To top it all off, the campaign made attendees sign a pledge of support before they could enter the venue......snip~

I confess to ignorance--has anybody ever done this before?

Now is that desperation or what? She is having people sign a loyalty pledge to attend her event. What say ye?

I can't recall anyone having people sign a loyalty pledge NB. What is Team Clinton going to do. Take them to court for voting for someone else? Get their vote discounted?
Good morning MMC - this is an old trick, isn't it? You hold an "event" where you give out "valuable freebies", and then at the last minute just before people walk in the door you hit them with the "conditions" (like the loyalty pledge).
It's kinda low underhanded politics, isn't it? Shady, slimy stuff. What would people do if this happened in just an ordinary corporation, say, at a Labor Day sale or something? If you waited overnight to get your iPhone, and then at the last minute before you walk in the door of the store, the salesman says "you can only get in if you sign up for a year's service".
I've seen this done on the local level at some events, in a completely optional and honorary way. It's more of a sign-up sheet to identify & get enthusiastic volunteers.I can't recall anyone having people sign a loyalty pledge NB. What is Team Clinton going to do. Take them to court for voting for someone else? Get their vote discounted?

The choice of words and phrasing of the article title leads me to believe the article may be negatively biased:
"Hillary Totally Fails to Connect With Millennials in Ohio, Forces Attendees to Sign 'Loyalty Pledge'"
But I will point out that 'biased' doesn't necessarily mean 'factually inaccurate'.
That being said, the "pledge" appears to factual, and the crowd may indeed have been spartan and enthused. Unfortunately, besides the opinions, no crowd numbers were given in the article.
I'd like to know more about the circumstance of the pledge: Was it truly required to enter, or was it being enthusiastically pushed? The latter is not highly uncommon, the prior would be unusual, IMO.
I find it hard to believe a pledge would be required to gain entrance, but if true, then someone in the campaign really screwed-up.
Greetings, MMC. :2wave:
Well, this is one of the oddest, and heavy-handed, things I have seen in a long time! The election isn't until late next year, and people do change their minds. It looks to me like they're trying to ascertain how many of that age group they might be able to count on for votes - if they get a sufficient amount they will use it as propaganda and shout from the rooftops how popular she is, ad nauseum, so it behooves them to get as many "pledges" as possible, even though it probably means zilch at this point. None of the other candidates in either party has tried this approach, but we don't know yet what promises she might offer as an incentive, either, so we'll see how well it works, because most voters have learned that most politicians don't have a good track record at keeping campaign promises! Weird way to run a campaign, IMO. :screwy:
Hey there MMC -Heya Chomsky. :2wave: Absolutely correct about it being factual. Townhall is a Conservative News Magazine.
Here was Zito's piece with RCP.
Hillary Misses Mark With Millennials.....
“You lifted me up when I was down and out,” she said, referring to Ohio voters who got her flailing 2008 campaign back on its feet temporarily.
There wasn't the sound of crickets chirping, but no one picked up what she put down.
Clinton spoke for 30 minutes on voter suppression, gun control, women's reproductive rights; she called Republicans “terrorists” and championed foster care. The only time she caught the audience's attention was with a brief mention of college affordability.....snip~

Hard to believe she is this desperate, huh?
Heya Lady P.I don't think to many of those young people are going to give out their real cell phone numbers. Not after the NSA issues came out and with the cell phone issues. Some may even throw in fake addresses.
Like at the corner of Damnation alley and Survivors Row, Apt 3.

Hey there MMC -
Nice find!
Well, besides being amazingly garish and ostentatious, that document's data collection isn't that unusual at political gatherings. Though it's usually in the form of a sign-up sheet or smaller index-card-like document. These are always optional, but pushed on the crowd to get campaign volunteers.
Now, if this thing was required for entrance? Yes - then they've got a big problem!
Either way, producing a huge theatrical document like that is terrible optics and shows her campaign is lacking in tone-awareness or perhaps lacking in discipline at the grassroots organizational levels.
No way! Really?
Name and address to attend a rally. lol...I would have turned around and left.
Seems positively Soviet to me.

Heya Ballantine.Oooh.....Slim Shady, eh? I heard they had some Bad Bad Leroy Brown in them ranks. Typical Clintonites.
Someone better remind them, Ya don't tug on Supermans cape, ya don't spit into the wind, ya don't pull the mask of the Ole Lone Ranger and you don't mess around with Jim.
It may be an American thing, I mean you guys have all kinds of ****, like the pledge of allegiance, but in over 20 years of covering politics, I have never heard of a pledge. I knew a candidate who did once, and that was the end of his political career.....if a guy has to sign something to prove loyalty or commtment, then it simply isn't there.
The real news in this story is the "lack of enthusiasm. She was "the chosen", dozens of posters in here have been calling it over and done for months. Where are they? It seems this place is turning into another echo chamber, all the liberals have run for cover....
Heh heh - yeah, that's kinda the problem with this "politics" stuff, you have to become an expert with the "shady slimy" stuff just to get anything done. lol
