Hillary has a history of lying stupidly. Again and again.

As part of her DNC acceptance speech she told the story about a girl who could not attend school because she was handicapped and in a wheelchair. Hillary supposedly worked to overcome that.

But it was a lie. The former mayor of New Bedford, a Democrat, where this supposedly occurred, said that they had special vans that picked up kids in wheelchairs so that they could attend schools during those years, from before Hillary's time there.

Moreover, she passed on big law firms in DC not because she wanted to help kids instead of make the big bucks but because she flunked the bar exam there. Working for the children's defense fund was plan B.

She'll lie when the truth would do as well.

So why did you need to misconstrue what the mayor said in your reference? Here's the pertinent quote:

"Now, they may not have been able to go to the local school, depending on whether or not the schools were accessible for wheelchairs but there were many schools then which could and did accommodate our handicapped students in wheelchairs”.

What the guy SAID was that the girl may not have been able to go to the local school. YES, she might have been able to go to the special-needs school IF and ONLY IF that "Tremblay Bus Service" did indeed service her neighborhood - and there's no proof that they did...but what you didn't get was that the girl would have gone to ONLY a special-needs capable school, which may well not have been the one where her friends in her neighborhood went to. And being able to go to the same school where the other kids in the neighborhood go to - that's important for any kid. You KNOW this.

But NOW, thanks in large measure to Hillary Clinton, ALL public schools are disabled-accessible and are mandated to be able to provide educational services to disabled kids...including the medically-fragile Foster kids that I've had ever since 1999.

Let's hope she is lying and not living in a phantasy world all her own.

To Clinton resisting the compulsion to lie is like a dog resisting a the compulsion to eat a steak.

Move along. Nothing new here.

Good try, but, despite your sphincter muffled protestations, the conclusions of the author are clear:

So despite the progressive and good works of the New Bedford leadership in 1973 to make the city schools and streets more handicap accessible, Hillary (no pun intended) rolled New Bedford local government under the bus last night in front of the world. And needed to lie to do it.

There's nothing in the article that indicates that the handicapped bus didn't service the whole city, and if a local school wasn't handicapped accessible then obviously they'd go to a school that was accessible.

That was the author's OPINION. Thank you sir, but I'll go with what the mayor actually SAID...and at no point is there any indication that the girl's neighborhood was serviced by "Tremblay Bus".

And NO, don't try to claim "there's no proof the bus didn't go there" because THAT, sir, is what's called "proving a negative" - and it's a logical fallacy.

Thank you for this post -- and for your work taking care of medically-fragile Foster kids.

It really says a lot about our political climate that Post #2 takes apart #1 at the joints, and you still get people skipping right past all the words to dump on Hillary & jump thread.

It doesn't matter what the subject is. It doesn't matter whether it's a claim, a fact, or a random opinion. All that matters is that it's aimed at a perceived political foe and would reflect negatively on them if true.

"State Rep. Chris Markey, former Mayor Markey’s son, said he did not understand Hillary Clinton’s comments to mean that New Bedford didn’t provide any disabled services. “I just took it to mean that she was an advocate for children her whole life,” he said.

Longtime local Democratic activist Margaret MarDee Xifaras said Clinton and the Children's Defense Fund were in New Bedford and other places across the country in the early 1970s because fewer children were attending school than were present in the Census tracts.

"Mayor Markey did a leading edge job on transportation, but that doesn't mean they (the disabled children) were all captured," she said. "

Remarks by former mayor raise questions for some about Hillary Clinton's New Bedford story - News - southcoasttoday.com - New Bedford, MA

<snip>

"With more than 50 other staffers, Clinton contributed to the very first report of the Children’s Defense Fund, which had been founded just a year earlier. That report, called Children Out of School in America, found that schools were denying responsibility for educating children with disabilities “on the grounds that these children are different, might hurt others, would not benefit from regular school, and would tax the already stretched resources and patience of teachers and administrators.”

The classrooms that were available for children with learning disabilities were getting disproportionate numbers of black students, for seemingly no reason. The report tells the story of a 10-year-old black boy in New Bedford who was taken out of his regular class and shifted into special education; the investigators learned his IQ was misstated, though he had never been tested; he had, however, been dubbed a “problem student.”

“It was important work,” said Mitchell. “The problem of disabled children not being welcomed in school is hardly unique to New Bedford back then.”

Three years later, Congress passed the Education for All Handicapped Children Act, which guaranteed a free public education to every child with a disability. "
