This story really captures a lot of the trump story.

So, the suckers are whipped up, using their hatred of Mexican, in the 2016 campaign. Promises are made to 'make a wall and Mexico will pay for it', to get them to vote how trump wanted, and they did.

But it's the gift con that keeps on giving. Steve Bannon decided he likes money, and took the issue of the wall and the suckers who are whipped up, and he and a few accomplices made a web site to take donations to build the wall, saying maybe Democrats won't fund the wall, but the suckers can fund it by donating to this web site, and all the money raised would go to pay for the wall. More than 500,000 suckers donated.

What could go wrong?

Exactly what everyone who isn't a sucker in the trump cult would suspect could happen. Bannon and the accomplices have been charged with fraud.

Kolfage, according to the charges, spent more than $350,000 of the donations on personal expenses, including cosmetic surgery, a luxury SUV, a golf cart, payments toward a boat, home renovations, jewelry, personal tax payments and credit card debt...

"As alleged, the defendants defrauded hundreds of thousands of donors, capitalizing on their interest in funding a border wall to raise millions of dollars, under the false pretense that all of that money would be spent on construction," Acting Manhattan US Attorney Audrey Strauss said in a statement. "While repeatedly assuring donors that Brian Kolfage, the founder and public face of We Build the Wall, would not be paid a cent, the defendants secretly schemed to pass hundreds of thousands of dollars to Kolfage, which he used to fund his lavish lifestyle."

The indictment describes a sleight-of-hand perpetrated by the defendants on donors to the We Build the Wall group. Within days of launching the group, Kolfage, along with Bannon and Badolato, made a "secret agreement" in which Kolfage would be paid "$100k upfront [and] then 20 [per] month," according to the indictment. To disguise the transfer of the money to Kolfage, Bannon agreed to pass the payments through the non-profit he controlled, according to prosecutors, and in February 2019, Bannon and Badolato directed the non-profit to pay Kolfage $100,000 from We Build the Wall.

trump wasn't able to use his usual 'didn't know him' lie, so he used instead the 'barely knew him' lie. Bannon was some guy who very briefly had a role.

Quick, Bannon, you better compliment trump. You need a pardon.

trump's cronies, a con, suckers, 'the wall' used for the con, fraud, this is a very trump story. Since Bannon isn't currently a trump crony, he's out of luck for that type of corrupt pardon; he'll need the other type, if he has incriminating information about trump he can threaten to release, like Roger Stone did.

Whe you take out all the partisan nonsense you are left with a story of people giving money to a fake cause. That is nothing new. Earlier this year there was a story about a 400K scam. There is also one from spring about an AMBER alert victim and a scam set up around that.

Sucks people fell for it, glad the originators are being prosecuted.

But don't let that stop a good mud slinging contest in an election year
