Most Republicans are studiously avoiding advancing any semblance of an agenda or platform, but occasionally one slips up and shares what they're thinking (like Rick Scott's tax hike plan). Here we've got Ron Johnson dusting off the old "repeal and replace" canard and providing a reminder that health care is still in the crosshairs for the GOP.

We're in Year 13 of waiting for the imaginary "replace" in "repeal-and-replace."

Sen. Ron Johnson says Obamacare should be repealed if GOP wins power back
Sen. Ron Johnson said he wants to see the GOP repeal the Affordable Care Act if his party wins the White House and the House and Senate majorities in 2024, a move that would resurrect a fight that Republicans had waged for nearly a decade, then largely abandoned in 2018.
“For example, if we’re going to repeal and replace Obamacare — I still think we need to fix our health-care system — we need to have the plan ahead of time so that once we get in office, we can implement it immediately, not knock around like we did last time and fail,” Johnson said, referring to the signature legislation passed under President Barack Obama.
Since Biden took office, Obamacare has only grown more popular. The White House announced last year that about 31 million Americans now have health-care coverage through the ACA, a record high since the law was enacted in 2010.

They are the first to admit they won't run on policy. Right now they intend to only run on bashing Democrats, and in this way they leave little for Democrats to debate policy over. Republicans only major legislative accomplishment in recent years was the tax cuts for the wealthy/corporations.
They really don't offer anything good to the U.S., that was one of the worst pieces of legislation in recent memory...and they know it. They have no solution on healthcare, immigration, climate change, etc.
Fortunately we have the recent scars for four years of Trump, so the choice is between "Trumpism" or a Democrat, which seems like a no-brainer...hopefully for enough for enough of a majority again.

Sadly for them, the GOP can no longer run on the “whatever Trump wants” platform as in 2020, which had to be one of the funniest and at the same time scariest platforms ever.

I'm not positive but I've heard this new plan from the gop will be announced in about two weeks.

Remember when Trump's White House gave Lesley Stahl what they claimed was Trump's health care plan but it turned out to be a bunch of executive orders and other crap?

Pure comedy

When the time comes they'll hit all the hot button issues they hit ever election, socialism, god, guns, abortion, crt, taxes etc. etc....and then if they win they'll do nothing. I would bet my bottom dollar they don't 'solve' the immigration issue they scream about when not in office.

The gop does not govern, they rule.

Sure do remember it. Another attempt to dazzle them with brilliance while in reality the trump administration once again baffled us with bullshit.

Something really terrific!

The reality is, even the most diehard Kool-aid-drinking Republicans and Trump cultists seemed to give up on repeal-and-replace about 3-4 years ago. Have you heard any of them parroting the repeal-and-replace line lately (until now)? These were people whose lifeforce was sustained by that BS for years! People whose incandescent rage toward Obamacare was their political identity.

Then the GOP’s scheme failed in 2018, wiping out the GOP House majority in the process and it just sort of faded away. Even Trump’s subsequent flaccid “two weeks” promises were a sad, half-hearted nod to the GOP’s decade of lies about the ACA, just mindlessly playing the old hits.

Will old RJ revive the classics for a new generation of GOP office-seekers?

hey, they did pass infrastructure though.

wait...

Sounds good to me.

"We're gonna repeal-and-replace Obamacare!"

What is the logic behind the GOP still wanting to repeal and replace Obamacare? It seems to have worked to insure millions. I realize that conservatives don't like the idea of pretty much any govenment benefit, but the ACA is more "conservative" than Medicare/Medicaid or the VA, it preserves private insurance, and seems to have its roots in some republican ideas. Is it, as I have posted before, that they can't stand Obamacare's first three syllables? Stop calling it that, guys, and in a generation or so people will forget which administration passed the ACA.

Loser #45 boot licker and widely reviled liar, Johnson is in a bad place as the weakest Trumplican Senator running for re-election this November, and will say/do anything to keep his seat.

Hopefully, the citizens of WI flush his ass in November.

The only ones who can prevent it are the GOP Elites...like McCain did in 2017.

Agreed, best to never vote for a GOP candidate for federal office ever again. (y)

The logic behind repealing legislation that extended coverage to 30+ million people, cost less than expected, saved the nation trillions in health care spending, and has gone a long way toward improving health care and health outcomes for Americans? I guess there isn't any! But try explaining to Republicans that if they repeal the ACA then plenty of things in it that they like (e.g., the hospital price transparency rules) go away and you'll get a blank stare.

The Dems with an appropriate response: DNC Statement On Republicans’ Plan To Rip Health Care Protections Away From Millions:
“Over the last few weeks, we’ve been reminded what a Republican majority would look like – raising taxes on over half of Americans, making health care coverage more expensive, and ripping protections away from millions of Americans with preexisting conditions. While Republicans double down on their harmful agenda and still don’t have any plan to lower costs for American families, President Biden and Democrats are working tirelessly to lower health care costs, cap prescription drug prices, and protect those with preexisting conditions from losing their coverage. The choice this November could not be more clear.”

But it appears that despite being a buffoon, RJ got the memo that opposing Obamacare is now political suicide.

Late Monday, Johnson issued a lengthy statement in which he clarified his earlier remarks.

Johnson said that during the interview he used the failure "to repeal and replace Obamacare as an example of how we need to be prepared to deliver on whatever agenda items we decide to run on. I was not suggesting repealing and replacing Obamacare should be one of those priorities. Even when we tried and failed, I consistently said our effort should focus on repairing the damage done by Obamacare and transitioning to a health system that works. I reiterated the necessity to fix our healthcare system in that interview and COVID-19 has exacerbated these failures."

Johnson had come under withering criticism from Democrats and said they were "false attacks."

Ten years of banging the drum on this issue only for it all to end in a whimper. I guess we are all Obamacrats now.

In 2020, Trump laid out exactly what he would do just as he did in 2016. Many things were unknown and Trump certainly was unpredictable as all was new to Trump in 2016.

So, what the hell is Biden's excuse for being blindsided at every turn and being totally unprepared for the presidency after 44 years of federal government service?

After those 44 very long and obviously unproductive years, all Biden can talk about is being called "Amtrack Joe". How so very sad and pathetic.

The explanation given for no platform was that Trump would pay no attention to it, so had he emasculated the GOP. That was my point.

The GOP is running on raising your taxes and taking away health care and they are winning.

Culture wars are powerful things.

At no time did Trump have any idea what he'd do on health care, other than lie about intending to come up with a plan. In two weeks.
