Why should no vessel have ever been named for Milk? Just because you disagree with honoring his legacy in this way? Obviously a tremendous wrong was done to Milk, which he did not deserve. He's gone, but his family must have been comforted by the naming of this vessel for him. So what does the renaming accomplish? It hurts them. It has rubbed salt in the wounds of his legacy. And that seems to be the point of the magacult. Being mean to people they don't like is what they think makes America great.

It does not. They have their heads up their collective asses. Being mean to people does not make a country great. Bringing hurt and opening old emotional wounds does not make a country great at all. It merely means the country is being run by immature assholes who simply cannot accept that everyone is not like them.

Whatever happened to: "With liberty and freedom for all?" How is sending the message that certain individuals are unacceptable fulfilling that? Hunh? It isn't. It's just being mean to other people because of their own stupid insecurity. It's trying to tell other people how to live their lives and telling them they do not have the freedom to decide for themselves. Maga is really maba. Make America Backward Again.

There was still a lot of discrimination against homosexuals during the time Harvey Milk was a politician. And his actions in support of equal rights for gay people and to be public about his own orientation, especially during this time, was an example of courage that most reasonable people respect.

And I think if this is something conservatives disagree with, they should use this time to name a bunch of boats after white, straight, Christian talk show hosts like Hegseth to make themselves feel better.

The attempt to eradicate of the general political and social accomplishments of Democrats won’t stop at attacking gay people, and we are noticing what you’re doing.

Also, gay people are courageous too. Gay people can fight and die for their country too. And they have for over 240 something years, you just don’t know their names because they had to keep it quiet.

U.S. Navy is renaming a ship named for gay rights leader Harvey Milk and considering new names for others named for prominent Americans.

In the works is to strike the following civil rights leaders names from USN ships: USNS Thurgood Marshall, USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg, USNS Harriet Tubman, USNS Dolores Huerta, USNS Lucy Stone, USNS Cesar Chavez and USNS Medgar Evers.

A highly localized figure maybe and even that is questionable. There’s a lot of revisionism that paints him as some kind of gay rights icon but the only ordinance he took the time to craft himself was the so-called “pooper scooper law” which required pet owners to clean up after their dogs. The ordinance to prohibit housing discrimination was proposed by somebody else and he just sponsored it. Truth is that all he was famed for at the time was getting on Dianne Feinstein’s nerves.
