NEW YORK (AP) — For their supporters, the thousands of Christian schools across America are literally a blessing — a place where children can learn in accordance with biblical teachings, untainted by the secular norms of public schools.

To critics, many of these Christian schools venture too often into indoctrination, with teachings that can misrepresent science and history and potentially breed intolerance toward people with different outlooks.

Biblical teachings? When it comes to teaching & learning in the sciences, the Bible is not a science text book. But the true believers who advocate these types of schools for the education of their children believe that the Bible is literal truth & has to be swallowed whole, without critical thought or discussion. And the same rules apply to beliefs in invisible beings & the morality of thousands of years ago.

These schools result in the production of intolerant, closed minded robots.

I think they mispelled “public schools” there...

Red:
That is not at all accurate. Neither the trustees and administrations of many Christian schools are "true believing" theists and yet they wouldn't think of using the Bible as a science text of any sort. Moreover, the teachers there, even those teaching theology, don't expect or demand their charges "believe that the Bible is literal truth ... to be swallowed whole, without critical thought or discussion." The ones I attended didn't do that then and they don't don't do it now.

With regard to schools with which I have a good understanding of their pedagogies and curricula, not one of them fits the description you've given. Some of those schools include:
  • St. Albans (DC)
  • Gonzaga (DC)
  • Georgetown Prep (MD)
  • St. John's High School (DC)
  • Georgetown University
  • Catholic University
  • Boston College
  • "St. Grottlesex" schools (St. Paul's (NH), St. Mark's (MA), St. George's (RI), Groton (MA)), except for Middlesex which is non-sectarian
  • Kent
  • Episcopal High School (VA)
  • Sidwell Friends
  • National Cathedral School
  • Stone Ridge
  • St. Andrew's (MD)
  • St. Anselm's (DC)
There are a many Christian schools that "eat heartily" from the "Tree of Knowledge."

As an aside, the Vatican even maintains an observatory. One can say many things about the Roman Catholic church, but fearful or dismissive of science and what science may reveal lisn't among the things one can accurately say about the current incarnation of it. The same is so of Anglicans/Episcopalians.

Like with any schools you are gonna have a mix of good and bad, i would never lump all christian schools together that just silly.
Private schools are private schools and thats pretty much that not much can be done about any nonsense they teach or bigoted vile policies they have.

the only place that really matters is thier accreditation . . on that there is no wiggle room.
A school cant teach 2 + 2 = 584 because the god of 584 says so and still have an accreditation.

So ANY school that is not teaching science or math etc properly and interjecting fiction or falsehoods into those classes must be looked and if they dont teach properly then there goes there accreditation.

But again im not claiming thats what Christian schools are doing. the ones i know do not do that, they teach just fine and religion is left in religious studies.
Im sure there are nutter schools out there no doubt im just saying theres no reason to ump them all together.

They're not seminaries.
