One historical observation is that whenever there is a revolution of ideology the revolutionaries inevitably go too far and begin purging their own ranks of those who are not ideologically pure enough. In the French Revolution, they guillotined the aristocrats but also some of their servants. Then they started executing other revolutionaries who were accused of being sympathetic to the monarchy. Finally, Robespierre, the leader of this purge was himself guillotined. The Russian Revolution had similar purges.

Are Democrats doing the same thing with racism and metoo movement? Of course, they are because it ALWAYS happens. People ALWAYS take a positive movement and take it too far.

Look at Tom Brokaw. He says one thing and he is immediately purged. Then the Virginia governor who nearly 30 years ago did something that is racially insensitive at a time when racial attitudes were very different. Now even his Lt. Governor has to be purged for something that may or may not have happened 14 years ago. Even Neil Degrasse Tyson stands accused.

My concern is that as we move forward with a more progressive and enlightened view of racism and sexual assault we will get bogged down in purging everyone who wasn't pure enough in the past.

Even liberal heroes like MLK and JFK would not survive today's metoo and racism purges.

Where does MLK fit in today's #MeToo world?

Maybe we need to apply a little grace and forgiveness regarding the past. We're all sinners, after all.

My sense is that almost no one is open to the truth of your message.

Let's see if the DP Membership proves me wrong.

Your error is thinking Northam is being targeted because of "racism". He's not. That is the excuse the Dems are using to remove him because he went off the liberal reservation on abortion and his statements about infanticide. (It doesn't matter if he actually said what they say he said. His words are now a liability to the Dem agenda.) He has to go so everyone will forget it. His Lt. Governor? Collateral damage if he doesn't survive.

Face it...this "blackface", "metoo", etc...it's all a tool. All it takes for the tool to be used is motivation. If the motivation isn't there, the tool stays in the tool box.

I'm sure the left would say that about Trump. Now they are all butt hurt because #metoo is now eating their own. LOL. Karma is a bitch... MLK was cheating on his wife when he caught a bullet. Not sure what #Metoo says about that...

It's Karma kinda day today. Bezo's doxx'ed, too. Virginia democrats black faced all over the place!, LOL!

I agree. The problem is when people start denying, getting defensive, and making excuses. Liam Neeson did right by calling himself out and admitting what he did was wrong. He didn't have to do that. The MSM tried to blow it up at first in order to capitalize on the MeToo movement, but it's rapidly blowing over, as it should. A mea culpa is one of the simplest things to do, and is paradoxically one of the rarest things to witness, especially in the public sphere. We all used to be more ignorant than we are currently, and we all will be less ignorant in the future. A mistake in the past is no reason to judge a person in the present, unless that person defends their past behavior, or denies it when there were multiple witnesses. In that case, it is reasonable to speculate that they don't believe it was a mistake at all.

It is the passion that goes with any new evangel, the kind of fiery passion that give rise to sloppiness and poor judgment.
Cooler heads and perspective will prevail eventually, but not for a while.

Equating figures like Al Franken and Harvey Weinstein as somehow the same is an example.
Lumping in Aziz Ansari, Louis C.K. and even Geraldo Rivera in with Donald Trump and Anthony Weiner, another...
We're talking about dissimilar things, dissimilar events and dissimilar people.

Acting rude or impolite, or crude is not the same thing as cornering someone and demanding sexual favors, and certainly not the same thing as forcing an outright sexual attack.

We don't hand out death row sentences for unpaid speeding tickets and equate a minor scofflaw with a person who commits hit and run vehicular manslaughter and DUI.

When the metoo and “racist in everything” crowd was attacking Republicans it was warned that if not checked it would reach ridiculous proportions. Democrats responded with well don’t degrade women and act like a racist and there is nothing to worry about. Now that high profile Democrats are being busted for the same behaviors all the sudden it may be time to step back a little.

I agree we are long past the time of taking a step back and rethink our attitude about our standards for elected officials. But I am also enjoying watching Democrats scrambling to put the metoo and racists everywhere toothpaste back in the tube after squeezing as much out as they could to try and get the other guys

Don't forget the left want to purge Howard Schultz. I almost never agree with you but you have hit the nail on the head here. Didn't just happen overnight though. One reason Trump was elected was because Americans were getting tired of the establishment and the politically correct and politicians having to run statements by their handlers first instead of just blurting out what they think like Trump does. Now you can argue whether Trump is what voters voted for in the end or not but you can't argue that this was on voter's minds when they filled in the Trump bubble in the first place. I totally agree with you that the Virginia governor led an impeccably good Democratic lifestyle for over 30 years and now he has to be hanged by a noose over some stupid thing he did in college 35 years ago that doesn't have one damn thing to do with who he is today.
