[h=2]A new book on the IPCC and Pachauri from Donna Laframboise[/h] Posted on September 10, 2013 by Anthony Watts
Donna Laframboise, who wrote the book The Delinquent Teenager, describing the shoddy methods and antics of the IPCC process has announced a new book. I was aware of this last week, but agreed not to post on it until she was able to make a last minute update about Dr. Rajenda Pacharuri’s supposed “dual PhD’s” and to solve a technical glitch with the PDF version distribution.
This book, Into the Dustbin: Rajendra Pachauri, the Climate Report & the Nobel Peace Prize, while also speaking about the IPCC, also focuses more on Dr. Pacharuri’s issues of credibility. As we’ve seen in the past with Himalayagate, voodoo science, referencing grey literature, and the self styled soft porn novel Return to Almora, Rajendra Pachauri, the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is a non-stop train wreck.
She sums up the book:
==============================================================
The IPCC is supposed to be an objective scientific body, but Pachauri writes forewords for Greenpeace publications and has accepted a ‘green crusader’ award. Continue reading →

Well, as long as peer studies do not discredit it the man is just doing his job. Can he do his job better? Perhaps but I am not sure that Mrs. Laframboise can therefore can invalidate all of the studies or the conclusions formed from that study.

The IPCC never had any credibility to lose in the first place.

Any number of people have described how the IPCC operates: The conclusions in their reports are predetermined by politics, the final version of their reports are written by bureaucrats, if scientists protest that the report is false in some way they are ignored and shunted aside but their names are kept on the report as "authors." Leading AGW scientists, who get millions in funding by backing AGW, coordinate with the IPCC to provide data with maximum impact on the public, hence "hide the decline". This book should have no surprises.

There are a number of points on which the IPCC has ignored the best climate science, even going by the standards that the IPCC supposedly upholds.

  • Half life of CO2 in the atmosphere.
  • Magnitude of climate sensitivity.
  • Precision of climate models.
  • Uncertainty about the cause of global warming.
Among other things. Their exaggerations are getting close to Al Gore territory.

[h=2]Digital Signal Processing analysis of global temperature data time series suggests global cooling ahead[/h] Posted on September 11, 2013 by Anthony Watts
This DSP engineer is often tasked with extracting spurious signals from noisy data. He submits this interesting result of applying these techniques to the HadCRUT temperature anomaly data. Digital Signal Processing analysis suggests cooling ahead in the immediate future with no significant probability of a positive anomaly exceeding .5°C between 2023 and 2113. See figures 13 and 14. Code and data is made available for replication. – Anthony

Harmonic Decomposition of the Modern Temperature Anomaly Record
Abstract: The observed temperature anomaly since 1900 can be well modeled with a simple harmonic decomposition of the temperature record based on a fundamental period of 170.7 years. The goodness-of-fit of the resulting model significantly exceeds the expected fit to a stochastic AR sequence matching the general characteristic of the modern temperature record.
Data
I’ve used the monthly Hadcrut3 temperature anomaly data available from http://woodfortrees.org/data/hadcrut3vgl/every as plotted in Figure 1.

Figure 1 – Hadcrut3 Temperature Record 1850-Present
To remove seasonal variations while avoiding spectral smearing and aliasing effects, the data was box-car averaged over a 12-month period and decimated by 12 to obtain the average annual temperature plotted in Figure 2.

[h=2]A Science-Based Rebuttal to Global Warming Alarmism[/h] Posted on September 10, 2013 by Guest Blogger

On September 23, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is scheduled to release the first portion of its Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). AR5 will conclude once again that mankind is causing dangerous climate change. But one week prior on September 17, the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) will release its second report, titled Climate Change Reconsidered II (CCR-II). My advance review of CCR-II shows it to be a powerful scientific counter to the theory of man-made global warming.
Today, 193 of 194 national heads of state say they believe humans are causing dangerous climate change. The IPCC of the United Nations has been remarkably successful in convincing the majority of the world that greenhouse gas emissions must be drastically curtailed for humanity to prosper.
