I was doing some reading about actor Desi Arnaz, Sr. and found this little tidbit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desi_Arnaz

According to Arnaz, in his autobiography A Book (1976), the family owned three ranches, a palatial home, and a vacation mansion on a private island in Santiago Bay, Cuba. Following the 1933 Cuban Revolution, led by Fulgencio Batista, which overthrew President Gerardo Machado, Alberto Arnaz was jailed and all of his property was confiscated.

Fulgencio Batista was a dictator that had believed in Socialism. It appears that 1933 was a dress rehearsal for 1959. It stands to reason that the know-how to overthrow a Cuban government by force was built in the 1933 revolution. It seems that confiscating people's property was typical way before Castro came on the scene.

At least the circus still visited under him. With Fidel everyone thought of him as the plague.

Huh? You're trying to claim that Batista was a socialist or left-wing?? That's a joke.

What was the politics of Batista? Batista described himself as a “progressive socialist,” and in 1934, long before Castro, it was Batista who first legalized the Communist Party in Cuba and put communists in his cabinet. When he won the presidency in 1940 by a comfortable margin in a free election, the Communist Party actively supported Batista. Small wonder, then, that Sumner Welles, undersecretary of state, warned FDR that Batista was a communist.
