Hamas Continues to Seek Israel's Elimination

Expressing one's willingness to seek peace is quite different from one's agreeing to a treaty ahead of negotiations. To date, Hamas has not made any indication that it would negotiate peace. It has demanded substantial concrete concessions e.g., 1967 boundaries, but only in exchange for a temporary truce.

Is there documentary evidence of this?

Isn't a truce (temporary or not) and starting to talk a good place to begin. As I recall, the UK Government started from this point with the Republican movement and before you say it, The Republican movement started out with the position that a united Ireland and ceding of the NI territories was a default position.

Well then, the Israeli people are pretty stupid as they seek peace since the decleration of independance in 1948 with the neighbooring countries and seek peace with the Palestinians in the last 2 decades.

Really? Are you saying that Israel pursues peace before even having a cessation of hostilities? So why does Israel demand Hamas renounce violence before even entertaining peace talks with them?

The term 'violence' in that case refers to terrorism.

No. No it doesn't:

"In principle I am in favour of engaging with people," Blair said. "But this is not a failure of communication. Hamas are in talks with the Egyptians. The essential thing is to make the shift from saying 'we reserve the right to use violence' to a position that says 'we will have peaceful resistance only and be part of political negotiations'. It's better that Hamas be part of this process, but they've got to be prepared to agree to that. I hope they do because this issue would be a lot easier to deal with if everyone was around the table."
