Almost half of all current jobs will become obsolete in just 15 years, according to one of China’s leading experts in artificial intelligence (AI).

Kai-Fu Lee, a writer, venture capitalist and technology executive who has over 30 years’ experience in AI, claims the world of employment is facing a crisis “akin to that faced by farmers during the industrial revolution,” reports the Daily Mail.

Lee will be on 60 Minutes on Sunday to talk about the challenges facing key areas like reeducation.

Be ready for the Big Crash because it is most certainly coming, soonish more than likely.

It would, then, be in one's interest to master the skills needed to have a career doing one or more of the "other half" of jobs.

The "writing's on the wall" in that regard, now, isn't it?

Time to learn plumbing and HVAC.

(Because people love comfort and being able to **** without the water backing up on them)

I see the lesson of Chicken-little is back in 2018 for a whole new year of prognosticating bull**** again!
Can you pick a new schtick...you know, freshen up the act?

Yes. With many more millions idle, what do do with them? To live you have to be productive.

We are too broken to handle even 25% of this one claimed problem...

Turns out that taking care with societal health actually matters.

Turns out that doing things right generally matters.

WAKE UP!

Yep, yet some folks consider a declining birth rate to be disastrous.

Look at what countries like Japan are becoming as a result of aging + declining population. Some towns have no one under 65 & they have to send in minders & healers.

The printing press put copyists out of work. The cotton gin put a bunch of slaves out of work. The steam drill put John Henry out of work.

We'll get by.

And Fox and the Limbaughs will blame the loss of jobs on the Dems and the increases in minimum wage. . And their mindless rubes will believe them.

The US was designed as a land of entrepreneurs. Those who aren't employed/employable because their human labor has become obsolete due to implemented AI would do well to move to places where their labor isn't obsolete or undertake proprietorships that allow them to be sellers of products/services borne of AI + human labor and buyers of the same. Individuals who cannot or won't do so are well advised to emigrate.

In 15 years those towns will have no one under 90.

60 Minutes on 01/13/18 had a piece stating 40 % of jobs world wide will be lost in the next 20 years due to AI.

Well put. And we should note his prediction addresses TODAY'S jobs. Occupations come and go.

I take exception to the underlined part. High tech living will not work well in 3rd world countries. A lot of today's technology is being used for entertainment. That will peak out immediately when there are world wide food shortages. Ask your robot to plant vegetables and see what happens. Machines don't get hungry so they don't drive the most important job force there is....

Yes. A lot fewer blacksmiths around today. And telephone operators. My grandmother worked in a factory placing carbon paper between sheets of multi-part office forms. All gone today.

The only constant in life is change.
