Guns, Machete and Ammo Get Jan. 6 Protester a 4-Year Prison Term

What were the guidelines? Are the terms lenient for these crimes? It seems most J6 sentences are lenient.
But, believe me at 72, 4 years could be a life sentence.

I really don't know the guidelines. I think most of the judges have been giving lighter sentences that prosecutors want for some reason. At 72, I'd be worried about 4 years for sure.

It sounds like a light sentence, I agree. But when you think of the impact on his life - being away from family, not free to go anywhere, probably the loss of his job & income.....I'll bet it doesn't sound light to him. But I do think he should have gotten more time.

Well, forget the loss of job - he's 72. You'd think he might have known better.
Hope he likes bologna sandwiches…

Odds are his stupidity that day means he lost half of his remaining life to incarceration.

Hope he and his family think it was worth it.

Full disclosure: I keep a machete, an axe & a chainsaw in my truck. Just sayin'. ;)
I do as well (a corn knife) - and more that could be considered a wicked weapon if ever used on somebody. I even have a nice sharp bailing hook with wooden handle in the truck. I don't carry brass knucks anymore - was swarmed by cops over a dumbass situation that went down and ended up in jail because of that damn thing.

Remind us about the firearm that was fired that day?
The firearm that a capitol police officer used to shoot and killed a unarmed tressapsser.
The only violence with a firearm that day.
Awe...too ****ing bad. You need to deflect to that pile of trash who rushed through a broken window because the need to deflect from the fact these people had weapons is the only thing you can come up since you've been wrong about this the whole time.

Which tells me you supported their actions amd supported overturning the election

Seems like a light sentence, but maybe Mr Coffman handed over a few names to the FBI that helped to possibly reduce his sentence.
The weapons were found in Coffman’s pickup truck, which he parked a half-mile from the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, to attend a rally at the National Mall, the Justice Department said. His truck also was stocked with large-capacity ammunition-feeding devices, a crossbow, machetes, camouflage smoke devices and a stun gun, the government said.
“Coffman also carried a loaded handgun and a loaded revolver as he walked around the area that day,” the DOJ said in a statement.
Coffman didn’t have a license to carry a pistol in the District of Columbia and had not registered any firearms in the national database as required by law, the Justice Department said. A search of his home also uncovered 12 jars containing more ignitable substances for Molotov cocktails, the U.S. said.

Unarmed trespasser in the act of breaking into a secure govt location while being told to back down.

Why would anyone think taking a machete to a public event is a good idea?
I can't think of an event where it would be considered acceptable.

I'm 69, accustomed to roaming around in the sunshine and looking at the moon and stars at night, spending time with four generations of loving family, hiking beautiful trails, eating whatever I want, when I want, fishing beautiful, crystal clear Rocky Mountain streams with 14,000 footers all around, , and a million other freedoms/life comforts that make life great. Four years in a 7 by 9 foot prison cell, at my age, --- unfathomable.

Nah, he'll be paroled at 18 months. He's gonna miss one Super Bowl. Very light sentence. If he were black he'd be facing 20 years.
Not in the federal system.. One must serve 87.5% of their time. That's with good behavior. That is, unless it's recently changed.

I think this ass clown got off to easy
Every single one of the people need to be made an example of.

I do wonder exactly what the article meant by his guns were not registered in the national database. Last I checked there is no such thing and no such law to do so. Hard to be to trusting of a source that gets such easily accessible information wrong.

The real insurrection was attempted by Trump and Co. from election evening leading up to Jan 6.

I don't know. I have an acquaintance who was convicted of Medicaid fraud by the feds. She served less than 3 years of a five year sentence. This was within the past four years.

Maybe they have changed it with the sentencing reform a few years ago. Or he cooperated and got a reduced sentence and just didn't tell anyone about his cooperation.

You left out the part where the trespasser was committing the crime of trespassing.

You left out the part where the officer legally ordered her to stand down with a lawful order and she didn’t.

You left out the part where she and others were essentially besieging the officers which is illegal.

You left out that she was part of a group that destroyed property.

You left out how she was there to overthrow a legal election.

You also left out how after being given a lawful order to stand down and step away…she lunged forward in a manner deemed as an attack and was shot as a consequence of her actions.

In love it how when a black man gets killed, you all shrug and say he should’ve obeyed the officer, yet when it’s a white woman…suddenly the game changes and you have to move the goal posts.

Who do you think you are trying to kid?
