On 14 April, representatives of the GUAM organization are planning to demand the UN Security Council to withdraw Russian blue helmets from "frozen conflict" regions in Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorny Karabagh and Transdniestria and replace them with GUAM's own peacekeeping forces.
Well, I wonder what leaders of the GUAM states hope against. Don't they really think that UN officials are not aware what bringing of the engaged peacekeeping forces to the territories of conflict might result in? Looks like uncovered armed intervention fraught with armed conflict and wide casualties.
I know that Georgians give eye-teeth for bringing troops into Abkhazia and South Ossetia to rejoin them once for all with use of force. Within recent years there have been dozens of acts of provocation by Georgian side against its autonomies. The very last of them took place in the middle of March in the Kador Gorge when Georgian helicopter was allegedly shot down by Abkhaz air defense. If only Russian peacekeepers are removed from there, a war between Abkhazia and Georgia will start inevitably. The UN must not allow it happen.
