If this becomes a reality, I see a slippery slope of changing borders all over the country. What does the Constitution say about moving state borders when enough people want to?

Long as there is no interruption in the potato flow…….

If they can make this fly watch for the conservatives in northern California doing the "Me too!”.

A states can cede territory to another state, but it requires the consent of the legislatures of both states as well as Congress.

Not just the North. California could shrink to a 50 mile wide strip hugging the coast from San Diego to Marin County.

This is going nowhere, because:

Whiny-ass right-wing Oregonians are free to leave.

Well, we went 87 years before the first War Between the States, we are approaching 160 years this time…….

There aren't enough people in eastern Oregon to get their wish. If they had the courage of their convictions, they'd move to Idaho. What they don't recognize is that the rural issues they face in eastern Oregon are the same in Idaho. Idaho is experiencing the same challenges funding health care, transportation, education as other states and there is debate within Idaho about whether it is financially prudent to add more stress to their already stressed resources.

This is an old conversation.

NJ and NY would also split with the north of NY being deplorables and the South of NJ also is filled with deplorables.

That’s okay. Trump can do it by executive order.

Will this not happen before or after the civil war doesn't happen?

interesting proposition

want the state to move to them rather than them moving to the state

seems reasonable [/s]

Agreed. If a region or even county is adjacent to another state wants to leave and the adjacent state approves why not change borders?

The grass is always greener.......

Heard that somewhere. I also met a couple who moved HERE from Idaho......

And why should the state give up part of itself?

These whack jobs from Eastern Oregon have been pulling this “move the border” nonsense for as long as I traveled the state on business, and that was over 13 years ago. I read about it in the local news way back then. They can’t get anything done through normal democratic means (candidates, votes, and organization) with the population mainly in the western part of the state, so they want to take the backdoor on over to Idaho without actually moving there. That’s the key- they don’t want to leave to get what they want in state government.

Those fools can pound sand.

why not eastern washington state ... that area is similarly different from coastal residents

It is, but you’ve got more populous places like Spokane, the Tri-Cities, and Walla Walla in Eastern Washington. There just isn’t much in Eastern Oregon in the way of population.

Washington and Oregon are both fascinating states, in my opinion, justabubba. I loved learning about the diverse agriculture in both places. Especially in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. If I had to uproot and move somewhere completely different, I would love either central Washington or western Oregon.

I’m just a hard liner when it comes to this Eastern Oregon joining Idaho stuff. The chances of that happening are basically zero, but the crusade to do so apparently remains.

Oregon had a taste of these people several years ago when they invaded the Malheur Wildlife Refuge. They were a completely disorganized, unprepared, undisciplined, destructive, dirty, and totally incapable of governing themselves. Even if states would grant them land Greater Idaho would end in disaster. They are not smart enough to govern intelligently.

And why should the state give up part of itself?

Because "the state" has no right to keep people hostage against their will. Why should have Great Britain given up Canada, Australia, India etc? because it was the right of people to self-determination.

Now I agree that most authoritarian and totalitarian states are loath to give up empire - ask the Hapsburgs or Ancient Romans. But if the declaration of independence means anything it is that to the extent practical, self-rule is better than colonial rule unless those folk wishes to remain a part of a state.

If folks in Idaho and Oregon wish to merge, who is to say anyone owns them?
