How the Trump WH uses lying as a strategy

Bob Woodward discusses the president's senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner and the strategy of lying and how the administration views controversy as a way to elevate a message.

This is a great analysis by Woodward on Morning Joe about how Trump uses lying as a strategy.

Anti-Trump Woodward and MSDNC morning Joe discussing lying as a strategy...

Stunning irony!

LOL. Ummmmmmmmmmm, it's called politics. It's part of being a politician.

There is a difference between spin, between exaggeration, and the kind of sociopathic lying Trump engages in.

It's not part of being a politician. When politicians lie they are punished.

When Trump lies he is rewarded because his supporters are basically evil people who have no morals or ethics.

Joe Scarborough and Woodward are honest and decent men who make every attempt to tell the truth.

Trump is a scumbag and psychopath who lies with every breath.

Trump supporters have sold their souls to the devil.

which all goes to prove that the country is slipping into a decline. The current presidency simply has accelarted it.

All politicians lie. All presidents lie.

All politicians lie. All presidents lie.

Not like this one. This one lies like a child lies- easily, often and with no regard for how plain the lie is, how obvious the truth is.
This politician lies like no others. And it's your fault, you and others like you. You deserve him. Trouble is, most Americans don't deserve the immoral fraudulent con man you've foisted on them.

LOL, you wanted to throw the book at Hillary because for a couple of days they claimed it was a spontaneous attack on Benghazi before they got all the information. But Trump lying to Americans about a deadly virus where almost 200,000 Americans died is OK with you.

Is it really worth it? Giving up whatever is left of your integrity to support this crook?

You can justify anything with that argument.

You should never accept government lying to you. They work for you.

Once you accept government lying to you then there power becomes unchecked. They can do whatever they want and just lie about it. When caught they can dismiss it as fake news and gullible fools will buy it.

This is the reality in Russia and many other countries.

Stunning irony!

We have Trump on tape saying he downplayed the virus. Now he says...he UPplayed the virus in actions. But how is that going to help those people who died because they believed him when he said it was a hoax? How is going to help Herman Cain who died after attending one of his rallies?

Lies kill.

They have no honor.

"Controversy elevates the message".

I've been trying really hard to describe how Trump's lies work. There it is right there and from Jared's own mouth.

All politicians lie. All presidents lie.

This is true. At the same time, this doesn't mean all politicians and all presidents lie as much as Trump. And that's where the problem lies. Trump has lied or mislead the American people over 20,000 times since assuming office. And just because some other person has lied before doesn't mean Trump now has a license to lie every single time he opens his mouth. And just because Trump is 1% accurate about some particular issue he is talking about doesn't mean the 99% he's wrong about ceases to be relevant or important.

You probably cannot find more than 100 lies of all the previous 5 Presidents combined. I'm not talking about spinning or exaggerating. I am not talking about walking back policy proposals, or breaking campaign promises due to the political circumstance, or stating incorrect facts out of ignorance. I'm talking about an almost psychopathic and habitual pattern of outright lies. And it's not okay. Even if it advances your political agenda, it's not okay. It's wrong in and of itself and you should be against it. And you should oppose Trump when he does it instead of sucking up to him like some sort of cultist. It's wrong.

When Trump lies he is rewarded because his supporters are basically evil people who have no morals or ethics.

Those people don't agree, because think think they have SOME morals and ethics about something; just not the ones you want. Show me anyone showing a lack of morals and ethics, and I'll show you someone who thinks they have morals and ethics because they have them in SOME area.

They have no honor.

It's really simple, Trumpers want everyone else outside Trumplandia DEAD.
EVERYBODY....EVERYBODY...
And they will sacrifice everything and stop at nothing to try to make that a reality, even if they wind up killing themselves in the process and the remainder will carry this grudge the rest of their miserable lives.
They will remain as a sullen and repeatedly defeated minority mass of ignorant pissed off morons who cannot accept reality.
Someone tell me how that gets resolved because I sure as **** can't figure out how.

Trumplandia will most likely wind up being our "Chechnya".

You're right that trump is in a class by himself, but Bush 43 was a horrible liar that resembles trump more than others.

Yes, Trump is in a class by itself, so much so that when you or anyone brings up Bush43 or Bush41, the forum should have a giant claxon horn go off! :lamo

That's revisionist history, false. Bush 43 was a monster, including on lying. The fact that he pales in comparison to trump doesn't change that. We could start with his lying in order to get the authorization for the disastrous Iraq war, or is that nothing now?

I can't believe this is the best you can come up with to try and defend your politician. The bar isn't even low anymore, it's in a hole in the ground. As we used to tell each other in the Navy, have some ****ing pride man (in your country)!

No argument there but it's not revisionism when I say Trump trumps Bush43 because at this point we are on track to possibly sacrifice more Americans to COVID than the sum total of all persons killed in the Iraq War, to include both our personnel and Iraqis....in a quarter of the TIME.
I don't dispute a single thing you're saying about Bush, just maintaining perspective.

We agree trump has dwarfed Bush, but perspective on Bush means recognizing him a a serious monster, not allowing him to be whitewashed by standing next to trump.

trump should not be allowed to destroy standard by making monstrous behavior look 'not that bad', and harm the country's standards. You don't want to have comments like 'President Jones has killed a million innocent people, but for perspective that's just a fraction of Hitler's holocaust.'

There is already a bias built in to exaggerate current events and let rose-colored glasses reduce historical events.

But that's what makes new wrongs all the easier to happen. We're also seeing it with things like the recent revelations about ICE detainee women given unneeded hysterectomies. People get numb and ignore the problems. We don't want Bush 43 becoming 'not that bad'.

It is lefties constantly trying to claim that everything Trump says is a lie. They have twisted his words so many times and also add things onto the lie column when Trump has just given wrong information. Whatever they can count as a lie they are glad to add to the total.
