Yes? No? How long?
Probably for a few days anyways. Once the bluff is called, negotiations will start in earnest.
The bigger (and more personal) question is how much does the Dow fall on Monday?
The shutdown I don't think will have that big an impact. The debt show down will. Ultimately, I agree with the theory that Boehner should have the shutdown, have public opinion fall on the Republicans to teach them it's not working and then cooperate on a viable plan on the debt ceiling. Default is way more of a problem than shutdown.
I agree. The Cons need to have their fingers bitten by the barracuda now so they steer clear of shark invested waters lest we all get chomped on by Jaws later.
Wendy Davis next gov. of Texas
I agree. The Cons need to have their fingers bitten by the barracuda now so that they learn the perils of seas and perhaps grow in wisdom. God forbid they rock our little boat in shark invested waters later in the month, subjecting us all to being chomped on by Jaws.

I wish the government shutdown was a real government shutdown. What's going to happen is that any payments that were supposed to be made will be backdated, it's not even saving any money.
Do you even know WTF you're saying?

yes, a government shut down isn't that big deal in the scheme of things; screwing around with the debt ceiling is suicide.

There is a simple solution. Reduce federal employees to 29 hours thus eliminating the costs of benefits. This would solve the budget issue. If it's good enough for the private sector, then it should be good enough for the public sector.
Nope, it's those idiots in congress trying to sabotage the economy that will get the blame. If the Senate refuses to pass the budget sent by the House, then it is the Democrats shutting down the government, not the Republicans.
What do you think the sequester is? doh.

"....Imagine a situation in which a Democratic Speaker said to a Republican President, I’m not going to increase the debt ceiling unless you increase corporate taxes by 20 percent. And if you don’t do it, we’ll default on the debt and cause a worldwide financial crisis. Even though that Democratic Speaker didn’t have the votes to force through that particular piece of legislation, they would simply say, we will blow the whole thing up unless you do what I want. That can’t be a recipe for government...."
