What a crazy mixed up world we live in.
Ethiopia, a part Christian nation is armed with Russian war planes as well as other Russian hardware, is fighting to rid Somalia of a Muslim Group that are funded by KSA an American Ally, this group is not only being fought by Ethiopia but also by various Somalian War Lords which are funded by the USA.

To clarify: The USA is currently on the side of Ethiopia and the de jure Somali government, and opposes the Somali Islamists.

I worry about this...the conflict has the potential to spill across the Red Sea and destabilize the Middle East. At least when Somalia was an anarchy, it posed no threat to the United States. I'm not sure the same is true for a theocratic Somalia. It'll probably resemble the Taliban in many ways, if it isn't stopped.

Allied troops enter Mogadishu; UIC retreats to last holdout

Pro-government clan militias and Ethiopian troops entered the capital of Somalia hours after the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC)'s forces fled to their last stronghold, the port city of Kismayo, which is located about 300mi (500km) to the south. It is surprising how rapidly the alliance's forces have recaptured the land in Somalia formerly held by the UIC. The UIC's rapid retreats after scarcely any fighting suggests that they are preparing for an all-out, last-ditch effort to protect Kismayo, or that they are gearing up for an Iraq-style insurgency. The UIC made some unpopular moves, like banning a common stimulant chewed by almost all Somalis, called qat; however, it did have Mogadishu under the control of law and order for the first time in many years ever since the first Somali civil war began, over 13 yrs. ago.

Considering that the government troops have captured Mogadishu and most of Somalia, and that the Islamists have retreated to their last holdout (as per my thread if you'll look in Breaking News), it's not likely for Somalia to go Taliban. However, I do believe the UIC is gearing up for an Iraq-style insurgency.
