Government shutdown based on a lie: "We are moving to block an estimated 1.4 million illegal aliens from receiving American tax-payer Medicaid"!

In 2016, Donald Trump ran on a promise to abolish the program and kept up his crusade throughout his first term, only to have the effort deep-sixed by Senator John McCain. This time around, Mr. Trump has rarely — if ever — mentioned the Affordable Care Act by name. Nor have his fellow Republicans.
But they never stopped trying. And this year they have made substantial progress. The outcome of the looming shutdown will determine whether Democrats can gain back at least a modicum of ground.

They shouldn’t be here in the first place. Emergency rooms already must provide care by law.
Our economy needs their labor. We have a huge "help wanted" over the border.

Yet our broken immigration ststem only allows a fraction of the labor our economy to come legally.

That bit of stupidity is all on us.

We need to fix our immigration system so that it meets the labor needs of our economy.

In the meantime of course the people here working should be seen in the er.

The emergency medical care provision is necessary because of the Reagan-era law that requires hospitals to treat people with immediate, life-threatening conditions. That requirement was putting hospitals that were barely getting by at risk. So Congress included this provision to help them survive.

If Republicans want to cut the funding, they should overturn the law requiring hospitals to treat people dying on their doorsteps. They could call it the Good Conservative Godly Christians Who Love Jesus Bill.

Without the ACA subsidy extensions, even upper-income Americans who buy insurance on the Affordable Care Act exchanges will be hurt by the repeal of this tax break.
That’s because as coverage gets more expensive, healthier people drop their insurance first, forcing companies to raise premiums on their remaining customers to maintain profitability.

Thanks to Republican legislators, a 55-year-old couple making $85,000 annually could see their health insurance cost more than triple, to $24,535 a year.
Obviously that’s unaffordable, which is why so many will drop coverage.

By the way, eliminating private health insurance from the American healthcare system altogether would save the nation billions and billions and billions. But we won't because of some people's "government is bad, private industry is good" religion--and the lobbying power of the industry.

It comes down to the regular folks having affordable healthcare and the BBB strips that out, but not until after the November 2025 election cycle, gee I wonder why they just happened to pick that date?

You have no idea how it works.

Many illegals have an ITIN, or use a fake social. The farmer still pays the taxes.
ITINs are not allowed to go on the W-2 where the SSN belongs. It's right in the instructions:
Do not accept an IRS individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) in place of an SSN for employee identification or for Form W-2 reporting
I guess you can print out the W-2 and write whatever you want there, like some random set of numbers, letters, maybe a picture of a cat, and mail it in with cash, but that's stupid. Pretending this reliably happens is pretty silly, like thinking the meth dealers report all their sales.

So when an undocumented person is hit by a car we should just leave them on the side of the road to die?
No, you should drive him to Canada to get free care.

I am glad you are trying to learn. You have a long way to go, but at least you are starting.

The farmers pay taxes on the labor whether the employees are legal or not. They get in big trouble if they dont.

They dont hire illegals because they want to save money, legal Americans and illegal immigrants cost the farmer the same

They hire them because there are not enough legal Americans to do the work.

You must live in a city or suburb. You dont seem to have a clue how it works. Im glad you are learning though.

Dont stop now.

I'm detecting a pattern. I post facts with links and citations.

You make a condescending remark, offering zero evidence to support your argument.

You repeat your claim.

You polish it off with ad hom.
Dont stop now.
Your pattern of parroting leftist propaganda is getting boring.

Guessing that you live in a city or suburb, far removed from actual agriculture, is an ad hominum attack?

Seriously.

Its not leftist propaganda, its the reality of agriculture.

You ignore the facts I posted from an official source and use an assumption of where I live to say I'm still wrong regardless of the facts. Yes, it's ad hominem, particularly in the absence of any actual on-topic, evidence-based comment.

WTF would living in a rural area do to give you any idea of nearby farmers' bookkeeping and tax reporting habits, things that are generally kept secret, anyway? Does working at a McDonald's in the same city as a nuclear power plant make your a nuclear engineering expert? It's not just ad hominem, it's mind-numbingly stupid ad hominem!
Its not leftist propaganda, its the reality of agriculture.
Oh look it's the repeat your claim step again.

You ignore the facts I posted from an official source
Didnt ignore them.

dismissed them no onecsaid an ITIN could be used on a W2.

Everyone i know is a farmer or in the ag business in a support role.

I was raised in it.

ITs all people talk about. No secrets in a small town (the fact tgat you didnt know that is more evidence that you arent from one)

You clearly just parrot right wing talking points and know zilch about agriculture.

Didnt ignore them.

Well that's how employee payroll taxes are reported. You're dismissing a critical point here because it's inconvenient.
Yeah I'm sure they bring their tax returns and payroll records to the local bar after a long day of work!

They talk about it to the exclusion of most other subjects.

What else do you think people immersed in the ag industry talk about?

Close, but no cigar. If an illegal is arrested and given parole - he technically meets the requirement to receive Medicaid. .

Links please!
Simple. https://www.nyc.gov/site/ochia/find-what-fits/immigrants.page

Medicaid: Free or very low-cost insurance for New Yorkers with low income.
If you are pregnant, you can get Medicaid regardless of immigration status, as long as you meet other requirements.
Undocumented adults who are 65 and older might be eligible for Medicaid if they meet the eligibility requirements.
If you are undocumented, under 65 and not pregnant, you can still get Medicaid for emergency services, as long as you meet other requirements.
DACAmented New Yorkers with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status can qualify for Medicaid.

Tractors. Weather. Literally anything else.

Sorry buddy, but you're just not very convincing at all.

Now the issue giving thrm headaches is labor, for obvious reasons.

The bbb didn't strip it out for regular folks but besides, why is Obamacare unaffordable? It was supposed to be cheap and the best.

Really, after all the shenanigans both parties have pulled on budgets and spending throughout our history, you are offended by this?
Not offended. Just sounded like you weren't aware of it. Nice to hear you are.

The bbb didn't strip it out for regular folks

Yes it does.

As of October 2025, the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," signed into law on July 4, 2025, has introduced major changes to federal health care programs, including significant cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces. Analysis from nonpartisan groups like the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and others suggests that millions of people will lose their health insurance as a result of the legislation.
Key changes and their projected impacts:
  • Reduced Medicaid spending: The law includes an estimated $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid over 10 years, which are implemented through several mechanisms.
    • New "community engagement" work requirements for certain adult enrollees take effect in December 2026 and are projected to cause a loss of coverage for many.
    • Some eligibility determinations must be done every six months instead of annually, which increases the likelihood of people being disenrolled due to administrative hurdles.
    • The law eliminates the temporary financial incentive for states to expand Medicaid, potentially discouraging future expansions.
    • It also reduces coverage options for certain lawfully present immigrants.
  • ACA marketplace impacts: The bill's passage did not extend the enhanced premium tax credits that were in place through the end of 2025.
    • Without these subsidies, premiums for many ACA enrollees will nearly double or even triple in some states, with California's governor warning of average premium hikes of 97%.
    • This is projected to lead to millions of people losing their ACA coverage.
  • Reduced Medicare benefits: The law includes several changes that will affect Medicare beneficiaries.
    • It imposes a nine-year ban on improving Medicare Savings Programs, which help low-income enrollees with costs.
    • The law eliminates Medicare eligibility for many lawfully present immigrants who would have otherwise qualified.
  • Projected coverage losses: According to analysis by the CBO and other groups, the total impact of the bill's health care provisions is projected to increase the number of uninsured Americans.
    • The CBO projects an increase of at least 10 million uninsured Americans by 2034.
    • An additional 4.2 million people are expected to become uninsured due to the expiration of the ACA's enhanced premium tax credits, bringing the estimated total to over 14 million.
