GOP senator Susan Collins: Why I cannot support Trump

A man who has made the millions he inherited into three billion has done so by fleecing suckers. He's now found a new group of suckers to fleece. The funniest thing is they think they're embracing reality when in fact it's a con man's fantasy. Some people thought they'd learn how to get rich by borrowing money and attending Trump University. Others thought the casino was the way to make money and some thought Trump's junk bonds were safe. He even screwed the Polish illegal aliens who worked on his construction jobs. And now, amazingly, he has a new crop of suckers who actually believe what he says, even when he contradicts himself. Incredible.

Trump has been on the national scene for decades. Isn't it funny how all of a sudden, the left has discovered that he's a racist, a xenophobe, scammer, etc... this year? Very strange. Yet, they still can't find a problem with Hillary. Open your eyes.

So this is a couple of Senators and a Governor who have refused thus far?

Good. The credibility of the GOP in 2018 will depend on it's ability to say that it did not accede to, nor was it represented by, Trump in 2016.

They're going to have to do better than this if they honestly want to claim they weren't represented by Trump in 2016. There are hundreds major republicans in political office if you add up congress and governors etc. If the leaders and 95% of currently elected officials endorse Trump then that's their baby.

At this point I honestly don't know what will hurt them worse, all of them coming out against him and thus pissing of the 40% of the republican voters that LOVE trump, or staying with him and having trump 2016 on the republican resume for Democrats to attack for decades to come (which to be honest they would attack regardless of whether the republican party stands behind trump or not now that I think about it).

The real nightmare for the GOP is if Hillary is indicted and Trump wins. It will be a countdown to "what gets destroyed first, the republican party or the country?"

I don't necessarily know about that. As long as they can plausibly say that they only endorsed him because of how bad Hillary is and they continue to rebuke him for every dumb thing that he says, that should offer some level of protection for them.

Aside from yer begging the question about the "left", are you arguing that the "right" has been aware of his racism, xenophobia, scamming....for years?

Donald Trump has been on the national scene as a con man, a huckster, a bad television personality, and the clown of the business world.

Meet your candidate:

As a liberal, he's proud to horn in on photo ops with Al Sharpton. He was great as a clown in wrestling. And, don't laugh, but he actually believes the beautiful women lust after him. That's your candidate.

I don't think Trump is racist or a xenophobe, though I think some of his comments and views are offensive. But is he a scammer? Absolutely. There's just no way of denying it.

And btw, Hillary has extremely high unfavorables. Plenty of people are finding things wrong with her, democrats included. But when the trailer park wing of the republican party voted for Trump, and when the Hillary lovers of the democratic party elected her, for many people the election became a choice between a very flawed but knowledgeable and capable adult and a man-sized baby throwing tantrums and name calling anyone and everyone that doesn't behave just the way he thinks you should.

Possible. I think it's a crap shoot either way. It very well could just fall by the side of the road and be all but forgotten if he loses, but I think it will stick a bit, especially when many of his hard core supporters feel the republican party isn't doing enough to support him etc.

the liberal socialist republicans like susan collins ,are sounding like the liberal socialist democrats, they all fear trump, collins is a liberal socialist, she is part of the problem.

run don run

A moderate republican isn't a socialist.

Can you tell me exactly what makes Susan Collins a socialist?

Collins and many other Republicans represent the sane wing of the GOP. And then there is the tea party & right libertarian wing who are obsessed with single issues that they think Trump will be their savior for like abortion or tax cuts or guns. It is that wing that has gotten the GOP into this mess and it is that wing that must be treated like a parasite which has infected its host and is now damaging the body.... in this case its the body politic.

The GOP needs a good enema to rid it of the tea party/ right libertarian waste and Trump will provide that in just a couple of months.

And then American can move on even though those same groups will refuse to.

You can thank Boehner and the establishment douches for Trump. It's totally their fault, they let down their base who wanted Obama's agenda stopped. Instead they helped Obama, appeared to help Obama or came across as incompetent boobs.

Well, there you go! Absolute proof with a few photos. Proof of what, I don't know. LOL!

Moderate Republicans are now "liberal socialists"? Interesting. So what what you would call Donald Trump, the lifelong Democrat, close friend of the Clinton's, gun-ban supporting, partial birth abortion supporting, heavy donor to Democratic candidates?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't all of the Republicans vote no on Obama's two signature pieces of legislation, the ACA and Dodd-Frank?

The reps need to electrocute the present status and nominate a new candidate because the following years anyone that hinted at support of Donald Lump will have a lot of explaining to do. VOTE INDEPENDANT!!! Show both candidates they are not what we want.

Proof? No, I just said you should meet your candidate. The man who is an outsider and who has been on the national stage for years.

He's a liar, a huckster, a deadbeat, and a liberal but then that's why you are a supporter.

What part of the "Obama agenda" was it exactly that Boehner and the other "establishment douches" made possible?

I truly hope not. Collins and the others are letting everyone know that Trump doesn't represent us. We are not Muslim haters. We are not antagonists. We are not crude, ignorant, foul mouthed, low class bullies. We are not anti-Mexican. We are also not Democrats, like Trump is.

The problem with Trump is that many of his ardent followers are all of this.

I would agree with this. In both parties you have your fringe elements who don't represent the clear thinking people. My point was that isn't what the Republicans stand for.

Fair enough.

Yes, we have two terrible candidates. At least we know Trump has been a successful leader. As for Hillary, not sure she has been successful at much of anything. She has failed as SOS, didn't do much at all in Congress, and her failures with national security and keeping secret information safe has been, well let's just say she was able to avoid indictment on those charges.

Let's not forget that she wants to raise taxes on us too. Got to love that, like they're not high enough already.

He's not my candidate, he's the one that the establishment ended up going with. He's the lesser of two evils, much less.
