First try at posting a thread. I don't know what qualifies as MSM. Admins of course are free to move this as need be.

That said, this stinks to high heaven. Absentee voting has been shown to be perfectly reliable. Getting rid of early voting on Sunday? This just seems to be such a blatant attempt at voter suppression. Thoughts?

I repeat: Demographics are against the GOP as the country gets browner. They have had the baggage of the Southern Strategy, law and order rhetoric, etc., which many people read as anti-minority. And along comes Trump who turns dog whistles on race into loud trumpet calls. The good: the GOP highlights minorities in the party, stresses “family values” which appeal to minorities. The bad: as soon as the Supremes gave permission, they institute voter ID laws and other restrictions in states which had been monitored for years for suppression of minority voting rights. Nothing new. It happened post Reconstruction when the demographics of freed slaves were a problem. It continued for almost 100 years til the Voting Rights Act of 1965. When the the Supreme Court said it was no longer necessary, the states of the old South and AZ covered by the Act unsurprisingly and fairly quickly proved the Justices wrong.

That is my read as well. This is just getting uncomfortable, though. It is getting so much more transparent. Maybe it just needs to be uncomfortable and the masks need to come off.

Why don’t we just limit voting to a five minute period at a single location to be announced by the current governor one minute ahead of time. That should stop those fraudsters!

None of these GOP voter suppressions can be stopped without passage of the ‘For the People Act’, aka H.R. 1 and S. 1.

This act will be filibustered by the GOP. Without nuking the filibuster, Democrats will be surrendering to a permanent GOP apartheid.

When will voter suppression end?

Are we a Third World country?

We just witnessed a Banana Republic for 4 years led by Head Chimp Donald Vladimir Adolf Trump

Let them eat Bananas

We just had the most secure successful election in our history, and rather than taking what we learned from a success and polishing it to make it even better, Republicans want to tear it down, because they cannot win a fair election...

Quit yer bitching.

After all the election fraud that was enabled by abusing the absentee ballot system, did you expect the GA Republicans to just sit back without doing something to prevent it happening again?

I particularly like the one about requiring a photo id when applying for an absentee ballot. This will eliminate all those illegal ballots dumped into the counting center at 3:00 in the morning.

If the lawyers at ALEC thought they could get away with that, they would have already tried it.

The Georgia Republicans certified the election for Biden.

HR 1 will pass.

relax.... It's just "proposed"

The party had a choice after 2012, when they did their autopsy.

They could continue the strategy of the last forty years, using talk radio and social media to court the angry white vote and ignore everyone else.

Or become more diverse and more moderate. Playing to latent racism and telling white people that they are the “silent majority” may have worked in the last century, but it only elected one President in this one. And that was by statistical fluke, and was not repeated.

Unfortuanately, when confronted with those choices, the GOP chose to be the angry old white people’s party, with all the diversity of the dittoheads that listen to right wing talk radio.

They put a man who made bigottry a watchword, and he proceeded to pander to that crowd in a way that the GOP leaders never did.

Four years on, they were resoundingly defeated.

And the “silent majority” which is actually neither, reacted by trying to occupy the Capitol.

The images of Jan 6th are the epitath of the world of Gingrich, Limbaugh and Trump.

We let the worst elements in American politics get their hands on the levers of power.

The result was disgrace and failure on truly epic proportions.

That Sunday voting just has fraud written all over it. Groups of Blacks riding together to cast their ballots. The implications are absolutely insidious.

Certified by the GA Election Commission.

But so what?

That doesn't mean there wasn't election fraud and it certainly doesn't mean steps to prevent election fraud shouldn't be taken by the legislature.

And who made this "commission"?

And who made this "commission"?

Absolutely. Just because there is no evidence of voter fraud doesn't mean it isn't hiding somewhere.

Or is the evidence that there was fraud is that the Republicans lost? All the ways of voting that they now want to ban were legitimate when Republicans won but are now clearly rife with fraud and must be changed because the Democrats won. What else could explain it?

Funny when the green deal was "proposed" the right wing nutjobs went berserk over it. Hell they still are, there are Republicans in Texas that blame the new green deal on the blackouts. Take your garbage elsewhere.

You and the others have not proven any fraud, so instead you just lie. It's ok, I enjoy watching your credibility go to zero with your lies.

Are you kidding?!? It was one of the most contested and controversial elections in history, and Georgia played a key part in that. It makes sense that they would want to address the issues raised, so that they aren't the center of controversy again.
