Google & Twitter endorse Black Lives Matter

I wasn't sure if this belonged in Law & Government or here, sorry if it's in the wrong place.

Google has seemingly endorsed Black Lives Matter and weighed in on the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Personally I don't think multibillion corporations like Google should be weighing in on socio-political issues one way or another, let alone endorsing a controversial political movement like Black Lives Matter. What do you guys think of this? Will this mean anything for Google's business? Set a precedent for more companies to take sides in political disputes?

#AltonSterling and #PhilandoCastile’s lives mattered. Black lives matter. We need racial justice now.

These tragedies must lead to action. We join the voices demanding racial justice now. #AltonSterling #PhilandoCastile

Truly a sad development.
They should at least wait until all the evidence has been released before making such a stupid move.

Oh Google, how full of sh!t you are!

In San Francisco, black residents are being evicted and forced from their homes, due to the gentrification that Google brought! Black Lives Matter, as long as they move somewhere else and give their historic neighborhoods to Google.

No. The Corporation is incapable of hate.
It is capable of making stupid decisions though.
Lending an endorsement is stupid at this point in time.

Re: Google & Twitter endorse Black Lives Matter

It looks like Google was just showing solidarity with the Googlers vigil for two black men that were mercilessly murdered. There's nothing wrong with showing empathy for a group of Americans that are exercising their right to voice their opinions in support for change. I think it is un-American to say they don't have a right to be heard and voice their grievances against a system that is killing them.

I don't think the attack in Dallas should negate or diminish what happened to Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Their deaths showed the world that blacks are disproportionately being killed by cops in this country and it's going to be hard a lot harder to ignore it from now on.

The demonstration in Dallas was peaceful until towards the end and the shooting started. As it stands...we don't know who the terrorists are or their motive for targeting and ambushing cops. It could've been any number of domestic anti-government, anti-police, anti-US groups...of which Texas has plenty of... and they saw the demonstration as an opportunity to carry out their own agenda. We just don't know yet because the situation is still fluid and on-going....and too soon to form an opinion or draw a conclusion.

I don't know in which forum it belongs, but it sure is a problem that Google is right to spotlight. This is very dangerous and we have to do something about it. You cannot have police officers walking around shooting citizens dead. And when the shot citizens are of an easily identifiable minority it puts the legitimacy of the state completely in question.

It is quite true for these individual events. But we have had so many beatings and killings of guiltless citizens by police officers lately, that the topic must be raised. Our society is broken at that point and it must be cured.

While it does voice support for those standing vigil, it is also support for the claim of racial injustice which neither of the killings appear to be.
That makes it based on nonsense.
They should be operating to expose and debunk the false claims of racial injustice as much as they should oppose real racial injustice.

I think it is un-American to say they don't have a right to be heard and voice their grievances against a system that is killing them.
There isn't a "system" killing "them". The vast majority is "them" acting out wrongly and causing the use of force against them. Nor are they being targeted or killed in greater numbers than white folks as they wrongly believe.
White folks do the same crap and get killed in higher numbers.

The blame must be place where it actually lies. And that is what Google and Twitter should support.

Their wrong belief is what needs to be solved, not exacerbated by support.

No we haven't.

Each and every time they point to an interaction and claim racism when it is not just exacerbates the problem.

Our society is broken at that point and it must be cured.
They can only cure themselves.

Would there be a problem if the 'sympathy' was being expressed for victims of an earthquake? Or deaths in a train crash? What if the city and the train had been poorly built, contributing to the fatalities?

I don't think the element of human culpability for tragedies make expressions of sympathy or hope for improvement any less acceptable. As long as folk are bright enough to realise that 9 times out of 10 it's just another marketing ploy, I don't see any particular problem.

No I don't in these cases. Nobody has missed the shootings and no serious person can believed that it is not a grave problem. The details of the shootings are pretty much uninteresting at this point, as the appearance is now taking the driver's seat.

No.
It is late. Or is it early? I was asking that you be more specific in your reply to me, as in, what exactly were you replying to? Impression in regards to what?

Never mind. This should suffice regardless if you are or not.
You are wrong. Have a good morning.

I think multibillion dollar corporations should support whatever they wish, and as public as they wish, just as I think in terms of small businesses or individuals. Whether or not it's good business is a different question, and a many facetted one.

I personally would have waited until I found out first if those two innocent black men were shot strictly because they were black men first. I know it's popular to assume that, but we don't even know anything yet. The cops appeared to be wrong and trigger happy. But as much as Al Sharpton and Company would love to make this all about race, I'm waiting to make that judgment. Google probably would have been wise to do the same.
