Blackanthem Military News, CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq – Soldiers from the 1st Iraqi Army Division enlisted 293 Iraqi males from greater Fallujah and Habbaniyah as part of an al Anbar Province-wide recruiting drive Tuesday and Wednesday.

“They looked enthusiastic about doing this, and that’s a good sign,” said Maj. William Gerst, a Regimental Combat Team 5 assistant operations officer who assisted the Iraqis in the coordination of the campaign. “It’s a sign that they notice we’re here to help them and they are taking control of their own destiny.”

“I want to serve our country and defend Iraq,” said one recruit through an interpreter.

Blackanthem Military News, KIRKUK, Iraq – Soldiers of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division transferred responsibility of security for the majority of the Kirkuk Province to two battalions of the Iraqi Army during a ceremony at an Iraqi military compound just outside of Kirkuk, Iraq today.

“With this ceremony, we complete the transfer of security responsibilities from our friends, the Coalition Forces, to our Brigade,” said Major General Anwar, Commander of the 2nd Brigade, 4th Iraqi Army Division. Two battalions in the multi-ethnic (Arab, Kurdish, Turkomen) 2nd Brigade had previously assumed security responsibilities in other sectors of the Kirkuk Province. Today’s ceremony with the final two battalions assuming responsibility demonstrates the readiness of Iraqi Army forces in the province.

Cache discovered in Diyala


Blackanthem Military News, TIKRIT, Iraq – Iraqi Soldiers on patrol near Khanaqin, in the eastern part of Diyala Province, discovered a large cache of mortar and artillery rounds Friday afternoon.

1st Brigade 5th Iraqi Army Division seized 93 artillery shells and 23 mortar rounds and transported the weapons to a local military installation where they were safely destroyed by a US explosive ordnance detachment team in a controlled detonation.

Blackanthem Military News, BAGHDAD, Iraq – Combined operations by Iraqi security force and Coalition Force troops continued to target terrorist cells this week. The operations resulted in the death and capture of multiple terrorist suspects and associates.

Baghdad

Iraqi army and security forces, with Coalition forces supporting, conducted multiple early-morning raids on Aug. 23, capturing three primary suspects tied to placing improvised explosive devices and illegally armed groups. The first raid resulted in the capture of an individual suspected of emplacing IEDs and targeting U.S. military personnel in Al Ramadi. Five other persons were detained for questioning. The second raid resulted in the capture of two persons who allegedly belonged to a cell that engaged in promoting sectarian violence through kidnapping and murder in southern Baghdad.

A raid on the evening of Aug. 29, targeting a key figure in the Mosul al-Qaida in Iraq organization, led to one terrorist killed, two detained, and the recovery of a cache of grenades and bomb making materials. The targeted terrorist is linked to the movement of explosives and participated in other anti-coalition operations.

An Aug. 28 morning raid targeting an associate of a former al-Qaida in Iraq cell leader resulted in three terrorists killed in Muqdadiyah. While moving to the objective, forces began clearing multiple buildings.

Blackanthem Military News, BAGHDAD, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces and Soldiers from Multi-National Division – Baghdad captured an improvised-explosive device-making facility and three mortar caches Wednesday during clearing operations in support of Operation Together Forward in Adhamiyah.

During clearing operations, ISF and MND-B Soldiers from 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, found a large supply of bomb-making components and engineering manuals in what is believed to be a bomb-making facility.

Blackanthem Military News, CAMP HABBANIYAH, Iraq – The 1st Iraqi Army Division, commanded by Brigadier General Abdul Wahab Jasim el Azawi Tarik, assumed operational control of the 3rd Iraqi Army Brigade at a 1:00 pm ceremony here August 31. The event marks the start of a three-phase transition aimed at shifting operational control of four brigades from Multi-National Forces West, to the 1st IA Division.

Blackanthem Military News, BAGHDAD, Iraq – The Iraqi Ground Forces Command assumed command and control here today of one of its Iraqi Army divisions from the Multi-National Corps-Iraq, marking the first step toward Iraqi sovereignty over their own armed forces.

The 8th Iraqi Army Division, commanded by Maj. Gen Othman Ali Salih Farhood, which had reported to Multi-National Division-Baghdad as a subordinate unit, will now report directly to the IGFC as an adjacent unit to MND-B. It was the first Iraqi Army division to take the lead in its sector on January 27, 2006.

On a more personal note. I had 3 Marines spend Labor Day with us. My youngest son (Lance Corporal) and his buddy from Detroit (Corporal, got a good taste of Southern Hospitality!) and my daughter-in-law (Sargent, married to my GnySgt oldest son). Oldest is in Iraq on second tour, daughter-in-law got a little boy in the oven so she is not deployed at this time but was.

We were sitting around after a great day and the news was on in the background, we hadn't even mentioned the war or politics all weekend (too busy with the baby shower and my youngest announcing his upcoming marriage...........................................ah and new grandbaby). DinL sudden turns to the screen while some reporter is doing a typical report on how the Dems are opposing the war and how it is a failure and we must get out. And she starts to tell us all how wrong the reporting is, how we are doing such good things over there and the people are glad we are there, things are pretty normal except in the specific areas where the insurgents decide to spend their capital but elsewhere it's all pretty quiet. Yes it's tough but the soldiers want to get this done and sure wish there was more support at home for them and their mission.

There were a few people there who were kinda shocked, couldn't believe it but she assured them that they all believe we can win this thing but it would be a lot easier if there was more support at home. The news here gets broadcast there through alot of ways and people know what is going on here.

So let's post some more good news, maybe more people will get on board.

Blackanthem Military News, BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Task Force Chamberlain and the Bagram Provincial Reconstruction Team attended the Mollai Girls School opening ceremony in the Shinwar District, Parwan Province , on Aug. 31.

The nine-room girls’ school is equipped with two 20,000-liter, gravity-fed irrigation tanks, a mosque sound system and solar power electricity.

Task Force Chamberlain provided support to build the school with Commanders Emergency Relief Program funds.

The school provides primary education for about 300 girls from five villages surrounding the school.

This is GREAT news. Every step that the Iraqi people take to move towards self-suffiency is a blow to the terrorist's (and other people who want to see Iraq collapse<--- <---) goals of establishing a terrorocracy in Iraq.
 
when iraq has a tourist industry it will a decent place but fact is a couple of photos showing some happy children is something stalin would show.

Combined operations target terrorist activities

Blackanthem Military News, BAGHDAD, Iraq – Combined operations by both the Iraqi security force and Coalition Force troops continued to target terrorist operations this week. The operations resulted in the death and capture of multiple terrorist suspects and associates, as well as the discovery of multiple weapons caches.


Baghdad

Operations in the al-Mansour area of the capital on Aug. 31 resulted in the detention of 10 suspected weapons smugglers.

On Sept. 2, Iraqi soldiers seized a large weapons cache when they searched the Al-Nida Mosque in northern Baghdad.

In another Baghdad operation on Sept. 2, ground forces detained four suspected terrorists when a search of one of the suspects’ home in southern Baghdad uncovered a weapons cache.

An evening raid on Sept. 3 targeted a member of an al-Qaida in Iraq car bomb cell. The raid led to the destruction of a suspected explosives lab south of Baghdad.

A morning raid on Sept. 5 targeted an al-Qaida in Iraq cell leader involved with the production of explosives, attacks with small arms fire, and the kidnapping of local Iraqi citizens

One terrorist was killed and four others detained during a Sept. 9 raid in Baqubah.

Bayji

A Sept. 8 early-morning raid resulted in three terrorists killed and two detained.

Western Anbar Province

An operation on Sept. 2 resulted in the detention of 18 suspected insurgents in Rawah.

Six more suspected insurgents were captured Sept. 2 in Sa’dah, a town just east of the Iraqi-Syrian border.

Later that same day, forces discovered an ordnance cache near the border. The cache consisted of 120 mm rockets, 155 mm rockets, and 122 mm rockets

A Sept. 3 raid in Hit resulted in one known insurgent and 10 suspected insurgents detained.

Ramadi

A Sept. 7 air strike in Ramadi killed three terrorists, observed recovering an explosives cache and then emplacing a roadside bomb. Forces observed the terrorists in a field retrieving explosives for an IED, and then tracked them to a location where the terrorists set the bomb in place for an attack.

Blackanthem Military News, BAGHDAD, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces successfully provided security for more than four million Shiite pilgrims Sept. 8-9 during the celebration of the birth of the Shabani, or 12th Imam, in Baghdad’s Karbala province.



The security forces seized 111 AK-47 assault rifles, 302 hand grenades, 17 pistols, four RPK rifles, three PKC machineguns, three rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 20 sets of body armor, and detained 25 suspected terrorists.

CAMP TAJI, Iraq – Soldiers from the 50th Engineer Company, 84th Engineer Brigade, traveled north of Baghdad on a mission Aug. 22 to repair and maintain bridges crucial to Multi-National Division – Baghdad, Iraqi Security Forces and local citizens, while Iraqi army soldiers, with the help of Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, and 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, both of 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, provided security for the operation.
