Good grief, furloughed fed workers are fine.

I got an email from Go Fund Me seeking donations for, like, a school lunch program for furloughed fed workers in DC and had to laugh. I’m not a fed worker but I have been through furloughs myself. It’s just the nature of working for a government/political entity. Every job has it’s pros and cons and the upside of such a job is being generally better insulated from the whims of a private market and greater job security.

So you were put on furlough for an entire month without pay, called back to work during that time without pay and unable to work someplace else because of it? Do tell your "I'm a poor man too, trust me" story.

Not surprising that a conservative has no sympathy for vulnerable middle class workers living paycheck to paycheck that are being held hostage for political gain and some being forced to work for free.

You have no ****ing idea what their life situation is. Maybe they're going broke making monthly payments on their sick child's $300k cancer treatments that their insurer refused to cover. ('Murica!) But hey, let's just pretend you know the details of all 800k of them.

The problem here, is that many of these employees are required to still work for the government, which largely precludes them from working somewhere else in the interim. Meanwhile, their bills pile up and default. Trump predicted this could even go on for years, and he seems to be sticking to that mantra. Those employees will be homeless before this is over, if that occurs.

someone proposed allowing the furloughed, unpaid civil servants to withdraw funds from their retirement accounts, without penalty or interest, with their delinquent paychecks assigned to repay those accounts once the shutdown has ended

would not help new employees, but most of the others would have a source of money that does not today exist for them

They know what they signed up for and they’re free to resign and seek employment elsewhere at any time. And it doesn’t go without notice that the people in Washington bitching the loudest about this are still being paid themselves.
