IRVINE, Calif. -- Forget "Fore!"

"Fire!" was the cry of the day for a golfer whose off-target swing sparked a 12-acre blaze in Southern California.

Holy crap... now, the call to ban golf courses in Southern California by the EnviroNazis...

:damn

Sounds like he needs to stand a little farther back on the approach.

Bull****...

Aren't Golf courses usually watered and have little ponds scattered about and green? That would have to be one very dry golf course for a spark to ignite it. Of course its possible the enviro-religious nuts running rampant in Commiefornia imposed some sort of watering restrictions.

Ahh yes, try to tie this to environmentalists somehow. Nice. California's water restrictions aren't a product of environmentalism, they're a product of not having enough water. There's these things called droughts...

Anyway, I still call bull****. A tiny little smoulder from a spark could just be stepped on.

I'm guessing it must have been REALLY dry, and the grass caught rapidly...

Or more likely, the golfer didn't see the tiny smolder and was gone before it was noticeable.

Or perhaps, he saw it and watched it burn?

Dropped a cigarette?

They didn’t charge him with anything, though…

Maybe he dropped a cigarette and used the club-spark story to avoid the consequences. To know the spark started the blaze, you'd have to watch it start to blaze! Short of being covered in lighter fluid, there's no way dry grass would light up fast enough to not be stopped by the toe of your shoe from one freaking spark.
