For those who are, at least in theory, in favor of funding the wall through a GoFundMe-like fundraiser:

What are your thoughts on the eminent domain issue? In order for a border wall to be built, privately owned land must be seized from American citizens by the government.

Are you OK with giving a minority of the voting public the power to rule on eminent domain issues? What if enough people got together and raised enough funds to seize your property, level your home, and erect a satellite dish there in order to search for threats coming from outer space?

Whether or not you agree that outer space threats are a serious matter, if enough people think it is, are you ok with surrendering your property to the government?

Eminent Domain is entirely legal and part of the 5th Amendment. I see no problem with it at all.

Does that include miles of "no-mans-land" and blocked access to the Rio Grande for farmers and recreational users? Or do you not live on the border?

Regardless of how the wall is funded, there are going to be numerous eminent domain case challenges before the wall is built. Administration will likely have to prove in court that it is in the nation’s best interest to take their property, and that won’t be a slam dunk.

I think the poor results of the GoFundMe says a lot about conservatives and their commitment to a wall. They're not willing to put their money where their mouth is. Trump isn't willing to make Mexico pay for it as he promised, so they want to reach their hands into everyone else's pockets to take the money for what they want instead of paying for it themselves.
