God's Guns, or, Who Would Jesus Shoot?

There's a company selling rifle sights to the U.S. military that are inscribed with Bible verses. These sights are being used with weapons in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not only that, but they're being used by the Iraqi and Afghan military trainees. All this in a war where the more radical elements are convinced that it's some sort of crusade. What could possibly go wrong?

U.S. Military Weapons Inscribed with Secret 'Jesus' Bible Codes

Coded references to New Testament Bible passages about Jesus Christ are inscribed on high-powered rifle sights provided to the U.S. military by a Michigan company, an ABC News investigation has found.

The sights are used by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and in the training of Iraqi and Afghan soldiers. The maker of the sights, Trijicon, has a $660 million multi-year contract to provide up to 800,000 sights to the Marine Corps, and additional contracts to provide sights to the U.S. Army………..

….. One of the citations on the gun sights, 2COR4:6, is an apparent reference to Second Corinthians 4:6 of the New Testament, which reads: "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."…..

……. The company's vision is described on its Web site: "Guided by our values, we endeavor to have our products used wherever precision aiming solutions are required to protect individual freedom."
"We believe that America is great when its people are good," says the Web site. "This goodness has been based on Biblical standards throughout our history, and we will strive to follow those morals."………….

…… The company's earnings from the U.S. military jumped significantly after 2005, when it won a $660 million long-term contract to supply the Marine Corps with sights.

"This is probably the best example of violation of the separation of church and state in this country," said Weinstein. "It's literally pushing fundamentalist Christianity at the point of a gun against the people that we're fighting. We're emboldening an enemy."…………

Can you believe this?

God's Gun Nuts Inc.

Supplying heavenly approved Jesus guns for the military to defend our Christian nation and to spread the word of God and his wrath to the pagans in the Middle East…….

Just wonderful!................never in a million years would I think this would/could ever happen……….

Just cannot underestimate the gun nut Jesus freaks…….

I ask our 2 A colleagues’………. Can you abide this?

1.A fat stupid nerd in a youtube video who is most likely a social outcast loser that probably jerks off to cartoon porn and lives in his mother's basement is not evidence of "jesus guns"

2.I do not know if you know this but ACOGs are not guns, they are sights that you put on a gun.So the ABC headline is blatantly false.

3.Because of anti-religious loons and anti-2nd amendment trash making a big deal out of this, most people who would have not thought a thing about the letters and numbers on their ACOGs are now going to be looking through bibles to see if the letters and numbers on their ACOGs mean anything.

One it's a super old story, two I'm yet to see anyone in the Iraqi military actually complains

Ok, first off, who the hell is going to go to all the effort of looking at what's written on the side of a gun sight, especially if it's a citation, and not the actual wording.

Second, I don't see how this is a church and state issue. It's words. On a gun part. The state isn't advocating one religion over another by allowing that.

Third, does anybody actually on the ground---not sitting safely in the states but actually out there in Iraq or Afghanistan--- care? No? Didn't think so.

Does the military buy halal food?

This silly claim was destroyed years ago IIRC : the story line Is TWO THOUSAND TEN.

The NAZI stuck a swastika over everything never seem to worry anyone. The Brits covered gear with a crow foot and painted targets on their planes

The military supplies halal food to Muslims, heathens in the ranks oh woe is us and we jam it on our coins and put illuminati/mason signs on our paper money.

I don't know if there is a sign for evil but could we put it on gun control stuff. Symbolism is very important and gun control works hard to deserve that one. Oh they have one a stop sign with a gun in it. Now there is a statement. I wonder what it means.

Man I wish I'd heard about this earlier, I already bought an ACOG sight... maybe I can trade it and get a Trijicon with part of Psalm 144 on it...

I ask our 2 A colleagues’………. Can you abide this?[/B]

As someone deeply concerned with the unlawful imposition of Christian religious beliefs upon non-Christian soldiers, no, I cannot abide this. Service weapons should not be inscribed with religious symbols or messages.

do you realize this is a 6 year old story that is pretty much a non issue. I own two of those weapon sights and had no idea of such "messages"

its a big ado over nothing

Are you a religious man? I find using a weapon dedicated to another tribe's gods to be insulting to my own.

Not at all. I couldn't care less if it has crosses, stars, crescents, or the horned God Ba'al on it

Does not bother me in the least bit and as we know the OP would not buy one under any terms, he gets scared easy. Strange that someone that hates guns spends so much time fixated on them, sounds dysfunctional to me but I guess everyone needs a hobby.

So if a soldier uses one they would somehow be converted? Strange maybe you can provide more information on this phenomenon.

They wouldn't be converted, no, but they would be forced to carry symbols of someone else's faith onto the battlefield. That is unlawful imposition of religion.

Nope it is not. Besides most are not even visible unless the soldier knows where to look. Look, if it is all a bunch of fairytales to you then why would you be afraid of it, makes zero sense. No one is forcing any religion on anyone any more than if you drive by a church are you being subjected to their religion because you saw the cross on top of the steeple, the answer is no, or do you want those removed also?

It is an unlawful use of religious dogma to force a soldier to carry weapon that was inscribed with Christian writing or symbols. The military would then be supporting a "religious motive for war". Moreover they would be required to create "messages" for all the other religions, and since religious symbology is illegal on the uniform, it should be illegal on the weapons as well, unless a soldier in battle outs it there.

I think if Jesus had a gun, he would've shot some of the moneylenders at the temple in Jerusalem because a Jew had to convert their money and lose in that conversion then buy a sacrifice with that 'deflated' money to get to heaven.

Who said it was all a bunch of fairy tales? I believe in your god; I just don't worship him.

And yes, inscribing those symbols on issue weapons that soldiers are required to carry is different than driving by a church with those symbols on it. I can't believe you honestly don't see that.

You believe but do not worship, now that is a new one and something that should be discussed in it's own thread.

So a symbol that is not even noticeable by the user is somehow forcing a belief on the user, sorry but I just not grasp the logic there.

You believe but do not worship, now that is a new one and something that should be discussed in it's own thread.

I am a religious man; I am not anti-religion in the slightest. I worship the gods of my Germanic ancestors. It's not really worth its own thread unless you want me to discuss specifics, which I am always willing to do.

So a symbol that is not even noticeable by the user is somehow forcing a belief on the user, sorry but I just not grasp the logic there.

It's not forcing a belief on the user, it's forcing spirituality on the user. Do you not believe that those symbols mean something, that they have power? Invoking the power of somebody else's god for protection in battle would detract from the protection my own gods grant me; it would harm me spiritually even if I did not know about it.
