"God told me to shoot him, so I did."[W:333]

Re: "God told me to shoot him, so I did."

You have a point with this Darwin award list? I know you were going to suggest a way of detecting what is going to happen in the future. Then we can take their gun away.

So what is it? Do not be shy now tell us so we can get right behind it. Otherwise were you giving your fears free reign and letting us know why gun control advocates crap their pants?
The poor bloke is English -- he has probably never seen nor touched a gun in his life.

Re: "God told me to shoot him, so I did."

My CZ has a firing pin spring safety.

But even then I would be afraid to drop it.

I keep it in a snapped holster with its own gunbelt strapped to my azz.

My three CZ custom shop pistols average 2000 dollars
I wouldn't want to drop them

but I am not afraid of them discharging if I do

Re: "God told me to shoot him, so I did."

I doubt any handgun made or imported into the USA in the last 30 years will discharge if dropped. that sort of issue is tested for and guns that don't pass don't make it to market for the most part.

purse carry is stupid unless you have a purse designed for it

So you don't believe the Englishman's story then ??

I do not believe in taking unnecessary risks or performing experiments that others will eventually do in real life.

Re: "God told me to shoot him, so I did."

How do you know she had a round with a mercuric primer in the chamber?

You realize this is utter nonsense. That primer he's talking about is ancient technology.

Re: "God told me to shoot him, so I did."

She must have had a cocked gun in her purse, or a very old gun.

Exactly. If you leave the hammer down and the chamber empty you will not have an accidental discharge.

Situations like the toddler who took a gun out of mommies purse and shot her are human stupid problems, not gun problems.

Re: "God told me to shoot him, so I did."

Did the gun go off?

Did it shoot somebody?

If yes and yes then it must have been.

Fallacious reasoning.

Affirming the consequent.

It is also possible, and perhaps even more likely given the design and manufacture of modern handgun ammunition, that it was a negligent discharge resulting from something in her purse catching the trigger and "pulling" it.

It is also possible, though less likely, that it was an accidental discharge caused by some sort of mechanical flaw with the weapon (though given that she kept the firearm in a purse that was not designed for the purpose and then dropped that purse I think the case could be made that even if there was some mechanical failure we could still consider negligence to be the primary contributing factor).

While a volatile corrosive primer is certainly one possibility, it is only one of several.

To claim that it must have been the cause is sloppy and lazy.

other than russian tokarev 762x25 ammo or some ancient egyptian 9mm ball, I don't think I have seen any corrosive pistol ammo in years

I don't reload and I don't think I know anyone who does.

Is it possible that someone could have given her a batch of reloads in which they'd used old mercury caps?

That's the the possibility I was leaving open.

I guess I would also have to consider that perhaps she was carrying a firearm that had been handed down in her family through generations and the pistol had the same ammunition in it was when her grandfather first loaded it in 1930-something.

I think these possibilities are unlikely, but, again, we really don't know what happened and mercurial primers have been suggested so I'm more tyring to figure how they could have been a factor than trying to rule them out, outright.

So no one ever has killed another human being for really stupid reasons using something other than a gun, right? I mean, it's totally impossible for one person to kill another if there aren't any guns around. That's scientific fact.

I agree that it is exceedingly unlikely and incredibly implausible, but I can also acknowledge that there is perhaps an exceedingly small possibility that it was a factor.

The first two were findings of fact.

The third was an opinion based on the first two.

A perfect syllogism.

Do you know what those words mean without having to look them up ??

The list of foolish deaths by automobile in April probably dwarfs these few shootings. Ditto overdoses by prescription drugs.

Yes, I know what a syllogism is.

I also know what an INVALID syllogism is.

You're aware, I take it, that syllogisms can be both valid and invalid?

One manner of INVALIDATING a syllogism is to affirm the consequent.

Doing so is a fallacy.

Which is what you did.

Do you just not see it?

Or do you see it and are just going to argue yourself blue in the face because this is the Internet.

Or do you not know what I mean...without looking it up?

It's OK if you do it with prescription drugs, though. Just make sure you don't do it with the evil illegal kind.

Re: "God told me to shoot him, so I did."

A sample of why some of April's US shooting death toll had to die.

... I was visiting the hospital with my daughter when I accidentally dropped my purse. The gun I carry for self-defense discharge when it hit the floor, and the bulet grazed my daughter’s face. MS 4/14...

How do you know she had a round with a mercuric primer in the chamber?

(1st) Did the gun go off?

(2nd) Did it shoot somebody?

(3rd) If yes and yes then it must have been.

Ok please copy and past the part that you believe is an affirmation of the consequent ?!

Okay.

Quote me in the response because I'm about to log off for the night and I want to see it tomorrow.

Yep...people be crazy...

Hide-and-seek was a haphazard affair. Morgan counted first, and Anissa and Bella hid. Anissa tried to tackle Bella, but couldn’t hold her down. It was then that Morgan gave Anissa the knife, but Anissa handed it back, saying she was too squeamish. While they talked, Bella was crouched down in the dirt, playing with flowers.

“I’m not going to until you tell me to,” Morgan said.

Anissa says she started to walk away, and when she had gone about five feet, she stopped. “Kitty now,” she said. “Go ballistic, go crazy.”

Anissa heard Morgan say, “Don’t be afraid, I’m only a little kitty cat.” Then Morgan pushed Bella over and stabbed her 19 times, in her arms and legs but also puncturing her stomach, her liver, and her pancreas and barely missing a major artery near her heart. “Stabby stab stab stab” is how Morgan recalled it. “It didn’t feel like anything,” she said during her interview with police, making a vague, loose stabbing gesture with her left hand. “It was, like, air.” Bella screamed and screamed: “I hate you! I trusted you!”

Police have arrested the man they say stabbed a 17-year-old boy to death Wednesday night -- apparently during a dispute over a piece of chicken at a family cookout.
Antonio Shaw, 25, was arrested and charged with second degree murder Thursday.
Family: Teen Fatally Stabbed Over Piece of Chicken | NBC4 Washington

CHICAGO – Chicago Teenager arrested of killing his own brother after his brother achieved a higher score on popular game ‘Flappy Bird’. Reports say the teen was jealous of his brother and couldn’t take the anger.

Gary Wright, 16 years old, was playing ‘Flappy Bird’ with his Brother, Jabari Wright, 17 years old, when Jabari reached a score of 17 in the game. Things quickly got out of hand when Jabari kept teasing Gary about his high score, which was 6. Gary allegedly stabbed Jabari with a knife 17 times in the chest, referencing his high score of 17. Gary himself called the police after he killed his brother and turned himself in. The Brothers’ parents have refused to speak to reporters.

Re: "God told me to shoot him, so I did."

Did any of this happen in the UK?

No?

Then what business is it of yours?

Oh, yeah you're from the home of Dickens. "Humanity (is) my business."

Nice to see you Jacob Marley.

London has a socialist, Muslim mayor...wait...lol

Ouchee !!

In England, when you outlaw guns only outlaws will have knives.

Remember Jack The Ripper ?!

Nothing has changed there since 1888.

1.6 million crashes each year in the US due to texting and driving. Nearly 330,000 injuries occur each year from accidents caused by texting while driving. 1 out of every 4 car accidents in the United States is caused by texting and driving. Nearly 88,000 people in the US die from alcohol. There are 131,000 accidental deaths every year. There are 4000 accidental deaths due to drowning every year...a number which dwarfs the accidental deaths caused by accidental firearm discharge. 39,000 people die in the US due to accidental poisonings. Yet...people from England get themselves all worked up over the cumulatively and relatively minuscule incidents of accidental firearms discharges in the community of approx 120 MILLION law abiding gun owners.

Its not about the facts for them...its about the cause.

just because idiots apparently own guns, doesn't mean guns should be outlawed.

Imagine if we banned cars because too many idiots drive them. Or, for that matter, what if we banned computers for the same reason?
