Yeah, it's not relatively predicable climate changes and pressure differences that cause hurricanes, it's God. Those silly weathermen don't know what they're talking about.

Me thinks people are responding without reading the article...:doh

lets see. First off, I believe Nagin is a democrat. "It's time for us to come together. It's time for us to rebuild New Orleans — the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans," the mayor said. "This city will be a majority African American city. It's the way God wants it to be. You can't have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn't be New Orleans." - Mayor Ray Nagin (yahoo)
hmm...how many ways are there to take this?? a chocolate city? man did he mess up.

He is, but he was a Republican for years and years. He only just switched parties, right before he ran for mayor IIRC. And no matter what party he's of, his comments smack of the religious right. God is mad? Honestly, now... his being a Democrat doesn't change the meaning of the words coming from his mouth.

You didn't read the article, did you.

Have you asked yourself "Why haven't the the liberal drmocrats pounced on this guy for saying what he said"?

Because they are racists that hate white people.

First off, Ray Nagin is very new to the politics game, having no prior experience before becoming. He was a lifelong Republican before switching to Democrats when he ran for Mayor of New Orleans, where the majority of the population is black. There is no doubt there is a correlation between him changing parties and NO being mostly black. Blacks in general favor liberal policies more becauses they raise the taxes and force the wealthier and middle class to subsidize for them.

Now if Nagin ran for mayor of New Orleans as a Republican, no doubt he still would've won because of black pride, but there would be dissatifaction between the GOP and the people of New Orleans, if Nagin followed conservative policies, he wouldn't get reelected, so that's why he switched to Democrats.

Now we must accept the double standard in this country, if a major Republican figure made a statement on how a city is "milk" or mostly white, and he stated that that is how God intended it to be, there would be a public outcry in the media.

The Liberal Media would jump on that particular person and pounce over his statements, lashing at him for his racist comments and attacking the Republican party and try to portray him as a White Supremist.

Now no one has yet to call Nagin a racist directly in any major news organization, even though without a shadow of a doubt his comments were, and we all know if this was a white Republican making this statement about another major metropolitan he would get jumped by the media, and impeached slapped with lawsuits.

However this statement most likely will destroy Nagin's career outside of New Orleans, once the entire country realizes how racist he is. He will never amount to anything more than a Mayor, he has cut off the bridge to a larger political career.

I read an article from CNN and some of his comments stated that he is able to connect with the late Martin Luther King Jr spritually, and speaks his mind as if it was MLK jr, as if he knew how MLK jr would've said in the current situation.

People please respect the intelligence of this forum and read the article before commenting or it'll make you look like an idiot and there will be loss of respect for you, and it undermines your credibility as a poster.

Yeah, but if you had listened to the rest of what he had to say, he went on to talk about taking dark chocolate and mixing it with white milk, thus creating just plain ol' chocolate. MEANING, New Orleans has always been some sort of mixture of blacks and whites and everything in between, and it wouldn't be New Orleans any other way.

He stated that New Orleans was meant by God to be a black city, there is not other way to interpret what he said, because he stated that directly..

If he was white, Republican, and replaced black with white, he would get jumped by the media.

What are you babbling about that was the Democratic Mayor of New Orleans, and he's p!ssed about the war in Iraq and said that's why we got Katrina oh and then he said something to the effect that New Orleans should be a Chocolate City . . . gotta love those bigoted little libs.

Bullshit he said that after he got heat for the chocolate city statement.

Yeah, well, doesn't change the fact that he said it.

So if I say that the KKK was a good thing and then turn around and say that it wasn't it somehow negates my previous assertion that the KKK was good?

He said chocolate city what do you think that means? He's now running around trying to cover his ass, are you that naive?

Yep, you figured out our agenda to rise up against whitey.

Seriously though, it seems to me that most liberals who have commented on it HAVE "pounced on this guy." I've seen very few defenses of him, and most of the mainstream media (which you would consider liberal) has given his comments very rotten reviews.

mmmm...chocolate city. *imagines chocolate roads with tootsie roll street polls*

Did he mention if peanut butter was included?

This just in: After Ray Nagin loses his job as New Orleans Mayor, Willie Wonka will be running to replace him.

Nagin Recruiting Hershey to Rebuild New Orleans
by Scott Ott

(2006-01-17) — In a further clarification of yesterday’s remarks that a rebuilt New Orleans would be a “chocolate” city, Mayor Ray Nagin today said he’s planning to recruit Hershey Foods to establish a candy manufacturing plant in the hurricane-ravaged region.
