God commands disobedience to his word

I chronically hear Christians say that God would never command people to go against his word... I really can't believe people that know scripture hold on to that belief... it's easily proven False yet the myth remains strangely prevalent.

God says thou shall not kill and then orders the Israelites to kill many people including women, children, and babies that were without sin.

Here is an example:
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth:

Numbers 21:9 ►
So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

God commanded Moses to do the exact opposite of what he formerly commanded.

Not to mention, it looks a bit satanic.

God can do whatever he wants to.

God can and has had people do the opposite of what scripture says. The first Christians did the opposite of what the Mosaic law commands. Yet Jesus said he came not to abolish the law or remove one word from the law. God changes his mind a lot

So, if the RC does something that the Bible says not to do, who knows if it was actually inspired by God? Since God has a reputation for commanding people to go against his word, I wouldn't put it past him to be responsible for the decisions of the church councils

The Bible alone Doctrine is built on a premise that blows itself up! The Bible alone is all that is needed to prove that the Bible alone is not the sole rule of sacred theology!

Gonna stop you right here. The commandment is thou shall not murder. So you should do a little more research before you bring up the topic and accuse others of not knowing scripture

The contradictions only arise because of the ignorance of he who thinks there are contraindications.

For example, "Thou shall not kill" is a translation of the Hebrew that's a bit off. More correct would be "thou shall not murder" meaning unjustified killing.

"Thou shall not make graven images" refers to images of gods. An ordinary snake would be fair game.

If you are looking to make what others believe look silly it's easy to do because most other people are ignorant as well, but it's a pretty hateful thing to do.

When non-believers attempt to interpret scripture they just make a hash of it.

Do respect.

Do adherance to authority.

Don't question.

Be a sheep.

Pay your tithes.

Get away with stuff in your own life because everybodies at it. Just don't let it be public.

Those of us who believe in the Holy Spirit know that He is with us constantly reaffirming the correctness and reality of God's word as revealed in the scriptures. As for the rest of youse, go suck eggs. :2razz:

Yes, it was justified. God told them to do it, and God doesn't need your approval.

That's nothing, though. According to scriptures at one point God wiped out every man woman and child on earth except for a single family.

But not to worry. He promised not to do that again. At least not with a flood.

Yes, sometimes you have to kill bad people to protect those you love. But you're not interested in facts like this, you're only interest is to engage in cherry-picking scripture, based on your lack of study of the Bible (thinking that just reading it is enough, instead of actually studying the full meaning and cultural and historical context). But making an effort to actually know what you're talking about would just get in the way of your hate....

My point being,
don't critize Catholics for what they do in their devotions to Saints. All you have is an OT verse that condemns seeking out wizards, mediums, and powers of the occult. The apostles in acts chapter 15 did the opposite of what scripture said and decided the mosaic law no longer needed to be followed with circumcision. God changes his mind. What is formerly forbidden becomes permitted.

As the Church authority, the Apostles made decisions that totally went against the scripture of the time. The first Christians were not Bible Christians.

Don't use the Old Testament to attack Catholics because the OT says a lot of bizzare things like kill people for working on the wrong day of the week.

Then don't blame catholics for having statues...those statues aren't Gods, neither is the adoration that belongs to God supposed to be given to anything less than God

How is that possible?

If one is all-knowing, and already has all of the information, along with a set of ironclad morals, what is the impetus to change one's mind? There couldn't possibly be any reason.

Did I say I blame Catholics? Yes, the statues of the Saints don't represent gods. Saints are God's representatives in Catholic tradition. They work for Him. They are stand-ins for Him. Some claim they make God more accessible.

There's a whole long history of the little images used to represent earth gods and house gods, etc., and why that was a problem for the Hebrews. In general, the commandment was an injunction against idolatry. Protestant Christians criticized Catholics for "idolatry", but I think that's just a slander.
