You've all heard the appallingly unscientific bias against GMOs in the media. The ignorance is stunning, and supposedly objective media outlets are routinely permitting anti-GMO nonsense to go unchallenged despite the scientific consensus that GMOs are perfectly safe.

opposition to GMOs is only attributable to scientific ignorance or malice. So which is it? Just stupidity or are they paid shills of the organic food industry?

Not necessarily, if one is concerned due to health issues directly from the plants, then maybe... but there are a whole lot of folks that are more concerned with the legal and financial aspects of GMOs and how that's effecting farmers, how it spreads to areas and farms that don't want GMO crops, AND the fact that unlike regular crops, a farmer isn't allowed to simply replant from his existing crop's seeds without paying Monsanto or whomever every single friggin' year at exorbitant pricing.

It's not just about food safety it's about the health and welfare of the farmers, their land, and their livelihood.

Let'em starve!

If GMOs are so wonderful and safe, why does the lobby behind them work so hard to ensure GMO products do not have a label telling the buyer about it? One can assume well that since there is an absence of mandatory labeling of GMO products there must be some reason for keeping the consumer uninformed.

Let'em starve!

Nobody should starve.

The real problem is, by holding back the progress of genetically modified foods, they are causing starvation of some of the most vulnerable populations. Meanwhile, the gmo-denialists live lives of privilege.

And right on cue the GMO denialists come to spout their ignorance.

Labeling requirements are idiotic. It's safe, it doesnt need a label. Labels just scare stupid people unnecessarily.

So your real problem is with patent law. No reason to spread ignorance about GMOs. Join me in promoting their safety.

Unfortunately I cannot do that so long as the other issue is overriding. Sorry, that's like promoting those mortgages that individually weren't a problem until the bankers made it a problem with their shenanigans. Fix the way they're financed and protected for the Monsanto, et al, and then I'll reconsider. The two pieces at the moment are not separable.

Nobody should starve, but farmers should be pushed to the point of suicide because of corporate bullying and greed. Nope, not at all acceptable.

Bull****. The overridding issue is GMO safety.

You're basically saying that you don't like mortgages so you're supporting homelessness.

More bull****. GMOs are safe, and they are the future for food. Millions will starve while idiotic GMO deniers dither, and hold back progress. People like you are even worse because you acknowledge the science but remain complicit due to minor points of ideology.

Nope, that's just the overriding issue that gets the most press time. It isn't necessarily what's the most egregious problem.

Ok, say they are safe. Then why object to labeling? People have a right to know what they are buying.

Millions are going to die from starvation anyway, we've had the ability to end starvation worldwide for decades, but alas it ain't happening. GMOs just allow for Monsanta, et al, to make mucho profits off the backs of farmers.

There is no shortage of food, just a shortage of a willingness to allow the starving to have any.

It's irrational and holds back progress to put labels on foods that don't need it. You do not deserve to have your ignorant, irrational prejudices enforced by government fiat at the expense of an important industry.

What a bunch of bs. i am neither attacking or defending GMO foods. I just don't see an issue with providing knowledge to the consumer.

Never rely on a GMO-denialist to feed you, eh?

Just curious, how expensive do you think it is to put three letters on a label? Hysterical about nothing much?

I mean, of course they're not going to kill you. But the business practices and corporatism around the entire Monsanto thing, suing farmers out of business because of cross pollination as if anyone can control the wind or the bees. The entanglement with government which gives it all sorts of market advantages. **** GMO. Corporate Capitalism is one of the worst things to have happened to the Republic.

Indeed.

Then put something scientific behind your rhetoric, ideally not put forth by the very groups that claim GMO products are safe but also does not want the public to know what they are consuming.

That's a problem with intellectual property law generally. It is the height of idiocy to oppose the genetic modification of food sources because you don't like the United States' system of patent law.

That's pointless, trying to convince a GMO denier with science is a futile endeavor. The issue is not about the science. There is no scientific debate, the science is settled that GMOs are safe, it is not disputed by any serious scientist. The real issue is about how the denialists are able to go unchecked. It is immoral and disgusting to permit anti-GMO nonsense.

So you have nothing but a thread designed to inflame and accomplish nothing. Got it.
