The world economy continues to weaken and global poverty continues to grow at an alarming rate. Increasingly hunger and famine’s dark shadow continues its march over cities, countries, and regions. It has been reported that in the east end of London, UK homelessness has doubled in the last 3 years. In Australia it is reported that 600,000 Australian children live in poverty, with 18,000 kids homeless. In the US and Canada homelessness and police brutality continues amidst poverty, while the criminalization of the homeless continues to spread not only in Europe for the crime of sleeping in the rough but in America as well.

It is in this global dynamic of increasing human suffering that Global Homeless Day 5/5 was conceived.
