From here: $17bn of global assets linked to 35 Russians with alleged ties to Putin

Excerpt:

International collaboration tracks wealth of oligarchs and officials accused by western governments of being president’s supporters

The Russian asset tracker project will start by focusing on a list of 35 men and women named last year as Putin’s alleged enablers by the jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny. It will record assets outside Russia where the reporting partners have seen evidence connecting them to these individuals.

Navalny’s organisation wrote to western governments requesting the names on its list be considered for sanctions and all but one have since been blacklisted by either the US, EU, UK or Canada.

The names include four of the wealthiest oligarchs, plus heads of state-controlled companies, prominent broadcasters, spy agency chiefs, ministers, political advisers and regional governors. They have been read out in the US Congress by lawmakers seeking tougher penalties for the Russian elite and in the UK parliament ...

Pathetic-Putin was one of the first to "partake" of the immense wealth of the ex-Soviet Government that was replaced by a so-called "Russian democracy".

And that was a long, long time ago. About 30-years!

PS: French activists have broken into and seized Putin's daughter's property on the French western coast. See here.

THE RUSSIAN OLIGARCHS

They own assets everywhere, but of course London is the big hot spot, where they own several properties through shady Virgin Island shell companies.

They "owned" assets everywhere. Many if not most have been seized if outside of Russia.

The "gray-train" of absurd wealth in Russia started with Yeltsin who on 12 June 1991 was elected president. That's 30-years that the oligarchs have been millionaires and some even billionaires. Whilst the rest of Russians have been and still are in some very-deep-sneakers eking out a living.

From here:
Both the top 1% and the bottom 50% of Russian income earners received about 20% of national income in 2019. This means that individuals in the top 1% earned on average about 50 times what those in the bottom 50% made. (Nov 5, 2020)

If that is economic fairness in the country, I'd get out quickly! Which is exactly what the billionaires have done. Their kids are in schools everywhere in the west BUT MOST NOT RUSSIA! Their houses, however, abroad have been seized.

How did the officials in a good many countries identify Russian-oligarchs? I figure that this asset-search (now bearing its fruits) was established some time ago and just waited for the right occasion. Which the Ukraine has presented to the West that undertook it.

I kinda-sorta think it was planned for a long, long time and it is being executed in repatriating Russian wealth that has gone awry! Still, one can only think of how much of that stolen-wealth remained in Russia!

PS: Pity Navalny who went back to Russia to "change things" and is now in jail.

UK freezes assets of seven Russian oligarchs including Roman Abramovich

Excerpt:
Others added to sanctions list are Igor Sechin, Oleg Deripaska, Andrey Kostin, Alexei Miller, Nikolai Tokarev and Dmitri Lebedev

UK Sanctions List here.

Also, this (dated 7 days ago):
Which Russians have been sanctioned in UK?

Russian oligarchs now subject to UK sanctions include Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven, and German Khan. The oligarchs who will be sanctioned today have a combined estimated worth of more than £100 billion (estimated net worth based on Forbes). (7 days ago)

That's one helluva-lotta muney! Probably enough to repair Russia's damage to the Ukraine? Methinks not yet ...

From the article:
“Too few oligarchs linked to Putin’s rogue regime have so far faced sanctions from the UK government,” he said. “We are lagging far behind allies in the EU and the US." said shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy. And as i understand this is a freeze on liquid assets in British banks and shares in British companies, any seizure of rela estate has not yet been on the table. And just 7 Oligarchs, that's a token action, when there are over 100 of them, most of them active in London in one way or another.

"We can't legally do anything" says the government. "Then we make new laws" says Parliament. "Don't worry", says the government, "we will have a new law in a couple of months when our dear friends has had time to sell their assets and move their money to safety".

UK minister in BVI for urgent talks on sanctioning Russian oligarchs

About time they at least pretend to want to do something about the Russians hiding money in the tax havens. The big problems is many overseas territories and crown dependencies have laws that allow the ownership of companies (shell companies) and trusts to remain anonymous. Thus Russian oligarchs can just keep using them to hide their money.

Putin's super-yacht in Italy:

Kinda-sorta nice. Four decks!

And expensive - price thought to be around $700M ...

Yep, when will it be seized, or will the Italian investigation conveniently drag just as long to allow the yacht to leave for Turkey.
