You and your spouse have been trying for quite while to have a baby.

Finally, you've both learned a pregnancy has resulted.

Do you want to know if it's a boy or a girl months BEFORE the birth?

Or do you enjoy the idea of a "surprise" on the actual birth day?

And why?

First thing I'd want to know is who the father is.

When I was having babies, it was not common to find out the sex prior to the birth, and it was kind of a fun surprise for me. I like mystery. :)

If I were having babies now, I'd still not want to know ahead of time.

I'd want to know. I'd be doing so much pre-planning (baby's room, etc.) that knowing if it was a girl or boy would just add to the excitement.

I'm a surprise kind of guy. My daughter is pregnant, and she knows I don't want to know its sex before birth...

I'd want to know ahead of time. That way we could put more thought into the name.

However, it's hard to deny that this kind of thing is always ultimately a two way street. The decision would inevitably depend on what my spouse happened to think to a large degree as well.

Well, if it resulted from you and your spouse, I'm hoping that you are the father, unless there's two of you inhabiting the same body. ;)

Did they have the technology at that time to find out? I thought it didn't come around til the 50's...

Rather have a girl personally - at least until she's a teenager. Then she can sex change to a boy.

We didn't find out for either of ours... which turned out to be girls. I knew they would be girls though and only had female names prepared.

Well, I was raised with Children were a gift from God.....so when we had my two. We never went to try and find out ahead of time. The ex was the same way. She believed that God would make that decision. Course I wanted sons to further the bloodline. She wanted one of each.

Although with our youngest.....when they did an Ultrasound. Not the indepth one. Some nurse told her she was going to have a girl. Which she then started telling every that we were having a girl. I kept telling her I wouldnt tell people such and that we couldn't go by what that Nurse said. She didn't listen to me. Then people held a baby shower for her. Buying all kinds of lil girls clothing and the whole works.

Which then she proceeded on and gave birth to my youngest son. I remember I was a bit ticked that she ran around telling all we were having a lil girl. For some reason.....I had the feeling the whole time that it would be a boy.

I wanted boys. I got boys. Still glad I had boys. I don't know if I could deal with girl drama.

Yeah.....living here Liz. I was glad I didn't have a daughter. Although if I would have.....she would have been gorgeous and caused me to go grey a whole lot quicker than what my sons have.

I was afraid that if I had a girl, she would have turned out like a mini-me, and it would have scared the hell out of me.

I'd challenge her to speak the truth, all the while knowing full well I was the father. Just the way I roll. I'd scream "Sons of the Pharaoh! You'll pay for this treachery! Living Christ, you'll pay!"

I wouldn't want boys... I would have adapted and been fine. Both girls have the best of me in them and some of the best of their mother... and very little of her worst, thank God!

Ohhhhh, I loved my boys. They were the apples of my eye. In spite of the fact that the oldest one turned out much like me, he was resilient enough to survive it, and grew to be a man of great strength and character.
