After the disgusting scenes of last Sunday when middle eastern immigrants marched through Berlin yelling slogans like "Jewish Pig! Jewish Pig!" in scenes that horribly rememberd us of what occured in our country between 1939 and 1945, today the protests by these "pro palestinian" protesters were finaly met by a large group of counter pro Israeli protesters.

It is important to note that most of those "pro palestinian" protesters where again middle eastern immigrants,

The vast majority of the demonstrators were from Germany's large Muslim community: women in headscarves; a protest leader reciting words from the Koran into a loudspeaker.

whilest the pro Israeli camp was German.

Makes me proud to be German. This seems to be the biggest pro Israeli protest in Europe so far and contrary to what some people here rant about, it was the left that marched with the pro Israeli side and was most passionate about it.

I am disturbed by how the BBC wrote about this:

The difficulty for many Germans is to know which side to support: Holocaust guilt has made supporting Israel a doctrine of faith for the German government. And anything that calls Israel's existence into question is beyond the pale.

So?

Yes, guilt has become a big part of our national identety. And that is a good thing! We know our historic responsibilities.

And sometimes when I look at the rest of Europe, I think we might just be the only people on this continent who actualy tried to learn something from history!
