Georgia's Senate runoffs: Warnock makes history with runoff win, Ossoff ahead

1/6/21
The Senate runoff race in Georgia between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican David Perdue is too early to call. At 9:45 a.m. EST, Ossoff led by 17,025 votes out of nearly 4.4 million counted, a margin of less than 0.4 percentage points. There were still some mail ballots and in-person early votes left to be counted statewide, the majority of which are in Democratic-leaning counties. Under Georgia law, a trailing candidate may request a recount when the margin of an election is less than or equal to 0.5 percentage points. Raphael Warnock is the projected winner in Georgia's other Senate runoff race last night, meaning that if Ossoff's win becomes official, Democrats will begin President-elect Biden’s administration with control of both the House and Senate.

The major networks have declared Democrat Raphael Warnock the winner in the Georgia Senate runoff race with Republican Kelly Loeffler. (y)

Democrat Jon Osseff leads Republican David Perdue by 17,000+ votes, with anticipated votes still to come in from urban Democrat strongholds such as Columbus, Macon, and Savannah.

I dearly hope the GOP grip on the US Senate will be broken, and Mitch McConnell's power on the Senate floor rendered impotent.

I have yet to hear a reason why the election has yet to be declared for Osoff. It appears substantially all of the outstanding vote is in very solid blue areas. it seems they are waiting for the vote count to exceed the re-count threshold of 1/2 of 1%. I wouldn't yet bet the farm on a Osoff victory, but I wouldn't be shy about betting the barn.

I predicted a Warnock win, but was more doubtful about Ossoff. Based on the areas remaining to be counted, it could very well be that Ossoff wins. Very interesting indeed.

YYYYYEEEESSSSSS!!! TAKE THAT, REPUBLICANS!! WE ARE THE MAJORITY NOW!!

But that doesn't mean you're guaranteed the ability to pass your wish list.

Joe Manchin is the wild card. And he's already taken a stance against court packing and the filibuster.

I already knew that. :) Committee meeting assignments, deciding what legislation gets put on the Senate floor, Senate rules, all that stuff is going to go back to Democratic hands now!

I fear we have given over to the socialist and communist with this vote. I hope I'm wrong but I think the constant accusations of racism and systemic racism have caused this to come about. You keep making accusations and expecting no reaction. For almost a year the left defended the violent protest across American cities, the destruction of federal property, city property, private property and did not condemn it. Those in charge made excuses, and supported the "summer of love" as businesses were destroyed, people attacked, assualted, police attacked yet the left did not condemn it, instead they defended it.

No we are not. Republicans will control the Senate for 13 more days.

You know what I mean. We the Democrats are the majority, and the Senate follows in just a couple weeks.

What wonderful news in the midst of this dark day in Washington!

And executive appointments for all the Cabinet positions, which would not be possible with Mitch McConnell in charge.

Doesn't mean jack if you can't get the votes to pass it

U mad about the results? Madder that it was my state that flipped TWO red seats to retake the Senate? :)

Of course I do, but that correction is important.

It is a real shame the Electoral College count protest is ruining what should be the best day of Jon Ossoff's career. I turned my TV off immediately after Wolf Blitzer called the race.

Fourteen days. Fourteen. Days. That's how long we have to hold out.

Nope. Just enjoying myself by piddling on your parade 😎

Rick Santorum said 14. Dana Bash or Gloria Borger said 13. Why aren't all of them counting down correctly?

Just over 13 3/4, if we're being exact.

If we are only counting days, I say 13.

I tried to start a countdown thread last month, but the widget did not work and all I could see was the code. So I deleted it.

Jack called, he says Republicant's in Purple States are going to make a cold political calculus. Rabid right is losing ground in many of these states. How many during the Reagan era would have guessed Newt Gingrich's state would have 2 senators, one black 22 years after he resigned????

They are hoisted on a petard their party made and mounted on the castle door. If they continue to stone wall progress in Congress they face a growing democrat population and will be Loefflered. Win the primary and lose the general.... ☹

Strike a more moderate tone and their party will kick them out in the primary. So are they going to refuse to work with the new administration or put the nation above politics??? For many, either way they are facing the end of their political careers.

Then again change the rules to match confirmation policy- simple majority- and Jack says that makes Georgia's two new senators worth their weight in gold... ✌

No need for court packing

A couple of falls here or there, exposure to “ Covid 19” or some other disease will open a few spots on the SC.

Heck if they are willing to steal an election, a few “accidents “ are easy
